ok. so basically just hold a copper/bronze wire to pin 10 which is closest to back of switch, then attach other end to fan grill? i'll try this

Yes. Remove the joycon and look in there at the pins. If you have a friend around to hold volume + and hit power while you make sure you're on the correct pin that might be easier.

I got into RCM once using a standard paperclip without a joycon plugged in, but it was just good luck and I haven't been able to do it again since.
I used a flashlight and a small safety pin to lift up pin 9 slightly, then bend it over pin 10.

if i don't have a copper wire, i tried stripping a miniusb old cable i had, but it just has a bunch of little wires with some silver wires..do I need a newer cable?

That would make sense. It sounds like it works exactly like the PS4 chip. Spoofs an internet connection the system connects to and then run the exploit. Neat either way.

Yeah thats exactly it. Going to solder a usb port onto it or just use a ras pi if it is not easy enough. I still have a 1.0 switch that I'm hoping will be the holy grail but have a ton of friends who i know want me to mod their 4.x+

For the people who built the RCM jig from f0f, does anyone have pics or instructions on how to build the microusb part of the jig?

Just get an old cable that doesn't work and strip the wiring.

wait
i think i'm retarded
was i supposed to do it from the switch's rail all along? i was trying to do it with the pins on the joycon itself not the ones in the switch rail
omg
as long as pin 10 is grounded then it will work. theres no need to ruin a good joycon. you can always order joycon rails on ebay if you need to replace one.

Doing the solder will not ruin it by the way. It works the same just the other methods will probably mess things up

ok, i don't have any brass wire like you have in your picture. do i need it or is there an alternative

Anything conductive.
just splice an old USB cable or something. make sure not to jam into any other pins though. just pin 10. if you touch 9 its okay because thats already a ground.

I'm referencing the bent pin method, I would solder before doing anything else, I just dont own an iron. I ordered a rail to replace the one on the joycon I bent and another that I'm going to use for launching RCM

ok, so i can cut the cover off of a old phone charger? i tried that but theres multiple different types of wires inside

theres no need for the whole joy con when launch RCM, just the rail
