So, you may have heard of a NSMB2 mod called New Super Mario Classic. Well, this mod is actually merging with Super Mario Bros. Next. We had people vote on the decision, and we came to this conclusion because a lot of the team members from Next were also in Classic, and there were things that we could have reused.
I know, I know, another dead reboot hack? Well, yeah, but nothing is getting canceled, it's simply a name change. Everything is as it was before, and the mod is still being actively worked on. Hope you'll be with us for another year of modding.

Wait, there was a DS game released by Newerteam on DS recently? Can't find it anymore and idk what its name is. The hack must be from 2017 or even early 2018, idk.
Right now I have my SD card out for this, but I remember vague...
EDIT: I found it for some reason. I had to go to the Newerteam site, but just to find out it is only Wii, then I went to their YouTube and found the DS release trailer.

We haven't looked in to Lasanga yet, so you'd be better off asking on the official Lasagna thread.
Project was picked up about two months ago, or so.
New Super Mario Classic merged into Super Mario Bros Next.

Man, I remember the beginning of NSMC. Ah the good days, when all our levels were complete shit and Gimz came in and rekt us.
You should wait for the updated DX version, and it will come out eventually in the coming months.

Image issues seem to be due to Imgur, so I might have to switch out the image provider.
Man, I absolutely love when peolpe decide to put in the effort to make something like this. It gets me pumped as to what can be done to games to turn them into completely new things, in most instances giving something old a new coat of paint. You have earned my respect, Next Team.
It's been a while since the last update, but Halloween Special DX is finally out. The mod features a whole world of brand new levels, three new music tracks, as well as other goodies.
Demo 3.0 is still going to release in the coming days, it just needs some bugfixes.

Is it possible to install this with the regular Luma 7.0+ game patching? I've been able to mod some other 3DS games by just putting the mod files in sd/luma/romfs/(game ID) and they work fine.

You can use that method too, I just have a tutorial setup using Lasagna to make it easier to switch from mod to mod.

I agree Tears is great. I even played thru it completely twice. I've been hooked on playing thru Fallout 4 again though, after they released the next gen version for Series S/X. Is pretty cool update.

because I already got burned out with breath of the wild, which for the most part is essentially the same game, and then again with master mode, which doesn't work as a new game plus (that always felt bizarre to me)
