Hi. I just hacked my console (newest rebug), but I have a problem with external HDD. Webman/irisman just can't see it. I have 3 different 2.5inch 500GB drives (WD Black, WD Blue and Toshiba) and no one is working. It is not a problem with low USB power (drives are spinning correctly). I tried with Y cable and external power (2A phone charger) with no luck too.

I also tried connecting smaller drive - original 120GB HDD (same sata -> usb adapter, same NTFS cluster size, same format tool used for formatting) and it works. Same goes to NTFS formatted usb flash drives. All drives have NTFS filesystem and only one primary partition.
Any ideas?

EDIT: Yes, all drives have MBR partition table.

Ntsf is the problem. PS3 reads fat32 just fine but you are limited to 4gb or less file sizes. You can try irisman it can read Ntsf and transfer to internal using it.

But smaller HDD works flawlessly with NTFS.

How you get it to work cuz I never figured that out. I have a 1.5 tb internal so I never bothered with external besides using Irisman to transfer to internal.
Newest webman has built in ntfs support, but if smaller HDD works with NTFS then I don't think it's NTFS problem.

The last newest webman I used was in December last year. And couldn’t get it to work with Ntsf. It wouldn’t read my 120 gb hdd. So I don’t know about 500 gb hdd.

I don’t know to be honest why it didn’t work for me. Mabey its the brand of hdd causing the problems? It wouldn’t work for external powered or a small thumb drive for me. Don’t know why ntsf gave me problems. So I did a work around. Others had the same problem like me too.

Okay, I had a lot of problems with my HDDs (a 500GB one and a 250GB one). I fixed the issues with both, so I'm gonna share my solutions with you.

The 500GB HDD either didn't work or disconnected in matter of seconds (it actually worked fine on my laptop). Buying a new external case fixed it. Not sure if that's your problem, but it doesn't hurt to try.

The 250GB HDD had a problem that's highly likely to be your issue. It's possible that your HDDs have a small hidden partition (mine had one around 150MB in size). To check that, do the following:
1) go to cmd.exe with administrator privleges
2) type "diskpart"
3) type "list disk". Now, there should be numerous hard disks shown, select the one with your external HDD
4) type "select disk #", with # being the number of the HDD you want to check
5) type " list partition"

After you try that and it does indeed have a hidden partition, reply and I'll tell you the rest.

My thoughts about NTFS... Actually, you're better of using FAT32 (better comptability etc.), I had huge issues with NTFS. And if the 4GB+ is your problem, there is an easy solution. Download PS3Iso Tools, open, check to split for FAT32 (it splits the ISO into 4GB files), convert to ISO and done. You don't need to merge the games, you don't need to install anything (besides manditory game data, of course). It's also more easy to use since some games have 10000+ files.

I hope I helped.
