Team Xecuter reveal info on upcoming Switch modchip

SwitchTX.jpg

Just over a week ago, team Xecuter announced that they are working on a soon-to-be-revealed modchip for the Nintendo Switch. This was big news because modchip devices are usually used to circumvent anti-piracy measures on many digital platforms, but mainly gaming systems, and to see one already in the works for a machine that is only 10 months old is very rare.

Since then the team have been quiet, no one knows what the device will look like, how it will work, or when they can get their hands on one - but GBAtemp can exclusively reveal today that there will be BOTH a solder AND solderless option of team Xecuter's Nintendo Switch modchip.

Here is a direct quote from team Xecuter:

For now, I can tell you there is a solder and solderless version. We have quite a lot in the works, you will have more info soon.

The difference in pricing should be interesting in the two versions of the device, but at least you can now rest safely, knowing that the team will be providing options for whatever the Xecuter Switch modchip turns out to be.

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for more info in the upcoming weeks.

I don’t really care if this modchip enables piracy or not. No I really don’t. Stop claiming I pretend not to be a pirate to feel better about myself. All I care about is to play homebrew versions of Snake and Pong on the Switch. For that I will gladly accept being on an outdated firmware and locked out from online and new games to come.

TX didnt write any CFW for the xbox from what i remember they just produce the hardware.

Xecuter has a lengthy track record of creating bios's to pair with their hardware. You could even flash them directly to the Xbox tsop, e.g. v4976.06 bios.

So yes, they do create CFW's.

As for modchips go this is a top class team. Going by history of iterations the solderless will be less reliable than the soldered and this will be reinforced by the mobility of the switch console. It's just the nature of the beast it's nearly impossible to create the same reliability in a solderless versus a soldered device.

As another person stated if this is a device that clips onto the legs of a flash ROM it will be more stable than a pogo pin design that uses pins to make contact with solder pads or vias.

Highly recommend getting the soldered version for stability and longevity.

I've known the xecutor guys for nearly two decades now so if I hear something I will pop in and let you guys know.

As we receive tons of email asking us for more info and release date, here is a quick update on our product status.

After a few days delay due to Chinese New Year, we have finally received our prototype boards, as can be expected from any development cycle, we have experienced a few issues with reliability of our entry point, we will work on refining our method and keep you posted, stay tuned for more exciting news and videos in the coming weeks.

We are sorry for the delay, but we are also sure all Switch owners will be delighted by our product. It is worth the wait!

Yes, it is the same people. This is a full company, not some dude in a garage. There are engineers, designers and manufacturing/fabrication.

Knowing how these things go, I would temper your expectations. It will take a few months to finalize and fabricate the design for retail. For those of you thinking it will be ready in a week, please stop. These things always take time....as they should so that the product is adequately tested.

I'd only wish that upon my worst of enemies.

Good to know I'm a part of that demographic, then (especially given your smartass remark about how "the randomizer probably updated my Switch to past 4.1.0 for the 4.x.x exploit derr herr") but I digress.

Please everyone just get along, its not our policy to ban people unless they are being overly rude to others, it does not matter if you VIP member or not, that does not give you right to be rude to new members.

What is welcome in this thread is speculation, you are free to discuss that among yourselfs openly, which there is alot of GBATemp, but there its all speculation, it does not contain any more official info then what is located here and on the front page.

To sum it up, as stated before our mod is ‘future-proof’, i know everyone screaming for ‘more proof’ after nintendo’s big 5.0 release, but Don’t Worry.. Be Happy.. Stay Clam.. Chillout..

There will be solderless and solder version, when the time comes as we get closer to release more info will be released, but due to cloners and e-famers, and other reasons, you will not see much more info posted like pics, etc. until just before pre-orders start, and we have not finalized a release date yet either, so don’t whine about that either.

All I can say is things are moving smoothly, the prototype boards are in hands of our skilled development team, and they are busy putting the final touches to give you a complete nice solution for modding, improving and enjoying your Nintendo Switch to the fullest the hardware can take you!

There are life signs form team x!

So they say it will definitly work!
Even update 5.0 is no worry!

I Think thats great news and update!
