Yesterday I was searching the internet for a batch torrent of Kyuubi subs Fairy Tail. One torrent site I clicked on offered me something along the lines of "Singles in your suburb horny and desperate to fuck you."

I closed the tab because it was some sort of spam. But now I'm wondering, what happens to those naive enough to believe it's real and actually sign up to the service?

Probably not much ... I guess they would want you to register and get a Premium account that you have to pay for, so you will loose some money with a 2 years premium account which won't give you anything at all.

No idea about other countrys but in Germany this is not allowed if you don't have a chance to actually meet reall people but who would actually go to the police and tell them "I registered to have sex"

Come on now, you really believe a service like that with any sort of functional sign-up page exists? It's more than likely that clicking the ad brings you to a page that installs malware, tries to have you install and run malware yourself, tries to have you give it your credit card info, redirects you to multiple additional scam pop-ups, or all of the above. I can't imagine more effort going into the scam than the surface-level hook you just saw.

It just means you haven't frequented enough porn on the Internet to recognize the stock photos yet.

I once set up a dating website for someone and as part of the background research we looked into these sorts of sites. I can't say scams one and all as there could well be one out there somewhere, but all the ones I saw were fairly elegant examples, or outright money grabbing examples, of gamification and sales in action. As in they could teach freemium games a thing or three. A handful of them seem to employ teases as well to try to get you to pay up, might even have to go look up my notes to see if I still have the script/flow chart used as we figured that out.

That said this was a few years back when the hook up applications were mostly still the domain of gay people, still remember the articles like "grindr will never work for straight people".

Were I not a bit pressed for time I would do a beer mat calculation. Suffice it to say though to achieve any kind of usefulness the user count and demographics would probably be an advertiser's wet dream and there is a reason porn site advertising is mostly circular and scams.

it's surely fake, it's like those ads saying "congrats you won $100000000000000"
i remember see on TV years ago a couple who believed on that and when they went to get their thing, they got killed
I watched a real life documentary on the tv the other day about a bunch of criminals that were in hiding from the police for various different crimes i think it was something like 38 criminals or there abouts and the police phoned their families pretending they were from some fake company and saying the criminals had won a huge amount of cash and they just had to turn up at this hotel to get their money. All 38 criminals turned up and got arrested it was one of the most unintentionally funny programs I have seen in years lol. The looks on their faces as they got busted was hilarious

Why does that remind me of this?:rofl2:

Too bad these ads about local singles are a scam 99% of the time, would be interesting if they were real (and free too:P)!

PS: Also, weird how this thread suddenly got all active thanks to a dump post, lol

Tinder uses the same tactics. Sometimes you will get likes by random people but you can only see them by having a premium account. I suppose it works the same way: a website with people that are either desperate to fuck or prostitutes disguised as clients that will ask for a payment under the table before things get interesting.

I'm excluding malwares because someone posted a screenshot showing one of those ads with Google AdSense.

Most of these sites aren't scams, they are more or less legitimate dating sites, they just have too small of a userbase to be effective (i.e. to have a member, of the preferred sex, within a hundred miles of you).
They are really easy to set up, you can simply buy dating site software and customize it to your needs, it's as simple as WordPress.
They usually charge a monthly fee. Those that advertize as "free" or "no credit card needed" show you the other members for free, but charge you a fee to be able to message them.
They advertize heavily to get started, attract visitors and create a userbase (of course all photos in the ads are bogus and "local singles" are a lie). Once a userbase passes critical mass and starts actually getting matches, congratulations, the site is now a legitimate dating site. Sometimes this snowballs and the site becomes huge.
The rest fail miserably.
The cycle continues.
