Reports are coming today about Microsoft looking to buy EA ,Valve, and Bluehole (source below). EA in particular is being reported by a leaker who is allegedly close to Microsoft. What do you all think?

My opinion (feel free to disagree):

I can see Microsoft buying Bluehole since they have already made one big exclusive for them. if Microsoft would buy them, that would guarantee PUBG remaining as an exclusive for the xbox one rather than being a timed exclusive. As for Valve, I do not really know what to think. It would be nice if Microsoft convinces valve to make new games, and merging steam with xbox game pass, as well as making it easier to do cross platform between steam and xbox one would be fantastic, but whether or not Microsoft can buy them, I am really not sure. For EA, I am wondering what would Microsoft do with them. I do not really know if Microsoft would be allowed to take their ips like Fifa, madden, Mass effect, battlefield and making them exclusives since that would probably cause massive backlash. At the same time, maybe they will end up doing something like Mojang where they still publish the games on other platforms and simply get their money this way.

Allegedly we might hear something very soon about Microsoft's acquisition of new studios. Hopefully Microsoft can start forming a decent number of studios to make more exclusives

I don't think Valve is for sale. But EA and Bluehole? Maybe, their stocks are public aren't they?

Valve prints money just by existing, why would they sell themselves?
I think it is the situation similar to how Disney bought fox. it is not that valve are struggling with money, but if Microsoft offers them a really good price. it might work. but I agree that valve sounds kind of unlikely to me

The report in the source discusses how Microsoft net worth is much higher than EA's, so hypothetically they could buy them. it is just that I do not know how would the exclusivity work. maybe they will do something like havoc engine and keep ea games on evere platform

depends, maybe if MS was just buying the development arm/IP's from valve but leaving steam to exist as a distributor

might actually be not too bad of an idea, steam hasn't done a very good job maintaining their IP's over the years, they make good games, but their turnaround has become meme worthy

For me, I am just hoping that we get portal 3, left 4 dead 3. I do not think Microsoft should make EA games exclusives, but they could do stuff like more benefits like playing anthem for free using game pass since it would be a Microsoft title at this point. Also maybe if Microsoft buys steam, maybe they will get rid of the terrible windows 10 store and simply use steam.

Well...microsoft can count to 3, so there's that in their favour.
but can they? they went 1,360,one......yeah, I'm thinking education slipped

but yeah I'm wanting to see all the three's and I have got accepting valve just cant make third title of a game, so of all those options I would like to see the valve IPs move hands even if the games drop in quality its better than just disappearing into a black hole halfway through

I could see MS wanting purchase valve if they wanted to make the xbox one and future iterations dual boot as a game console and PC, it could literally put a future MS console in almost every home, while controlling the largest game distribution available on both ends.

It also means that Microsoft could do game pass on pc. As well as porting valve games to xbox one like dota 2, as well as new games from portal, half life, left 4 dead ,etc

I highly doubt Valve is going anywhere. The way they operate is so different than other companies. There is no way Microsoft would buy them and allow them to continue their free-form development style, and nobody at Valve would stick around for it either.

They'd still push these games for other platforms.

It's clear that for few years Microsoft has been regretting getting in the Video Game console business, they're realizing that they should have stuck to to PC gaming and are now eyeing Valve because they're basically what MS is hoping they'd be today if they had kept to PC. They're now trying their hardest to bring back XBOX gamers to PC with free games for PC upon console purchase. Console market has been bad for them and their XBOX One plans would have worked on PC, where digital has been the norm for a while now.

I think Microsoft has built a good knowledge of hardware making (sorta, even if Phat XBOX 360s broke like hell and Xbox Ones too), they could very well end up rebranding XBOX for gaming PCs, if they do buy Steam, they'd have a good market on a good and affordable PC.

I think Microsoft is promoting xbox as an app at this point rather than a console. Perhaps that is why they are hinting that streaming is a big deal for them in the future. Which I wouldn't mind as long as they provide me with good deals like they are doing right now. Honestly xbox game deals have been much better than steam sales recently IMO

Maybe it'll spur a Linux game boom???? No? Shit...
Not until there is a proper standard with graphics and that kind of things, we will never see a "gaming boom" on it. To many variables to consider, plus the desktopmarket isn't big enough.
