I have a PS3 with CFW 4.81 Rebug, but this PS3 have problems with temperatures (I use the ice-cream stick trick to get them ok), sometimes games freezes and HDMI does not work. I think a reballing is needed. But I have seen a PS3 Slim second-hand for 35€, so I think I'll probably buy one

I mean, if you want to try and be an optimist, the release date could have been moved back just incase something unexpected comes up so they have extra wriggle room; they could actually still be planning for a Christmas release. I doubt that's the case though.

Habib has been posting on psx place and seems like he has a working software downgrade (with same compatibility as hardware flash)or is very close.

Mind linking me the posts that would make you think this? Because I haven't seen any posts from Habib that would make me think he has a software downgrader that's near completion, let alone finished.

Whats the word on this working with the SuperSlim? Only browsed the thread quickly and it would be great in terms of reliability/long term if that unit was supported as most phats/slims have had hard lives.

Super Slims will, at best, get homebrew enablers that may allow for backups to be played. It's very unlikely a full CFW will be released for Super Slims, as it's still required to downgrade to 3.55 to install one, something Super Slims can't do.

Thanks I had a feeling that would be the case. Interesting to see what approach they cook up for the Super Slims though.

And retroarch for emus webman / sman for backups
Cobra for ps2 and discless backup loading etc

With the first release the exploit would be able to write to flash, which would allow you to effectively downgrade your console without having to use a hardware dongle. This particular part is only useful for people who have PS3's with a minimum firmware of 3.55 or lower, as it's still required to be on 3.55 to install a full CFW. You can check which models have 3.55 or lower as a minimum firmware here: http://www.psdevwiki.com/ps3/SKU_Models

For PS3s that have a minimum firmware higher than 3.6+, then not much with just the initial exploit. The devs have stated that their next project, once the flash writer is released, will be to work on lv2. With lv2 access, one of the devs stated we'd have similar access as Taihen on the Vita, meaning we'd likely get homebrew to run, as well as the possibility of running "backups". This would apply to all 3k slims, and Superslim PS3s.

Supposedly it works on 4.82 but I would stay on 4.81 since noone really knows what Sony has patched with the 4.82 update

It works on 4.82, and the devs believe none of the other exploits they use have been touched, but I would stay on 4.81 regardless as a precaution until the full exploit actually releases. It's possible Sony did fix something that's not readily apparent in 4.82 (even though that's extremely unlikely), better safe than sorry.

You can probably play online, but it's very easy to get banned on CFW PS3s.
