Miiverse has shut down

IMG_5465.JPG

Nintendo has pulled the plug on Miiverse, tonight. The service ran 5 years, letting users on the 3DS and Wii U draw pictures and share screenshots online. Users, and even Nintendo staff took a moment to say their farewells to the short-lived community. It even trended on social media for a brief moment, as people posted their favorite images, silly posts, and artwork. Trying to access Miiverse will now result in an error code on Nintendo consoles.

Rest in peace Miiverse, a good experiment. They should bring back something similar on Switch, this time without the arbitrary restrictions Miiverse had. I really do like gaming hubs for games. On Steam, it's nice having game hubs for games to ask questions in the forums, share screenshots/art, get news updates, etc. Miiverse was Nintendo's mini version of that, and I actually did like it, even though I barely used it. Provides a sense of community on a console, beyond just a friends list. They should totally bring it back for Switch.

It was call miiverse, it was kinda like the steam forums but it turned into Deviant art quick, it should probably not allowed drawings... but then it would probably be fan fiction.... I dunno..... It worked on steam and none of that was there.... Well nintendo tried to do something to make a community but Hope they try again. :ninja:

Seriously, can they least have a way to share game play with spectators like on playstation, it doesn't have to be twitch, could be nintendo switch exclusive where you just screen share and voice chat about the game, try to make gaming like being in the same room for once. Online multiplayer can't even invite people unless you both have friend list status.... no you CAN'T INVITE PEOPLE PERIOD. You just have to somehow guess when they are available online and assume they will be searching for you, this has been the problem since 2005 with the NDS and WII, How is it so bad they can't even have a invite button?

I can see nintendo is trying to be different but you got to tell them they took a HUGE LOSS when they get it wrong so they can do better, is the only way people learn from the mistakes.:teach:

Sad about this tbh. I made a lot of art on miiverse, some of it was original work as well, others were art academy lessons or just me coloring in outlines from pokemon art academy.

I put my art dump for it on imgur, if anyone is interested.

I'd love to see some proper social media integration with nintendo consoles like the PS4 has with twitter/youtube in future but it's nintendo so I doubt we'll ever get that. Sad I lost all of my ace attorney screenshots which were basically out-of-context innuendos (ace attorney was good for that), but I guess I'll live.

I'm REALLY gonna miss the art community though, it felt a lot easier to get attention on the smaller miiverse than it is on twitter. I guess I'll adapt though.

This is gonna sound stupid, but I almost cried when it shut down because of that collage. Seeing all those farewell messages put together in one giant collage just made me really sad.

I never used Miiverse, but still, it's sad to see it shut down.

Regardless, I'll probably just keep using GBATemp and a few other forums; forums created by the console manufacturers seem slightly unnatural to me.
