Hi, i was thinking about building a 3ds with exclusive features, but i don't know which of these are possible and how to insert them:

These things are possible (some guys made them and created a video):
  • Usb charging
  • Wireless charging
  • Compatibility with wired controllers (but I want to make compatibility with USB ones)

About these things i don't know if are possible and how to make them:
  • Fast charging
  • Brighter screens and louder speakers
  • Better battery
  • Better cameras + flashlight
  • HDMI out (for playing games on a TV)
  • Integrated NDS fashcart (with a switch for swapping between a game cart in the default slot and a second slot with a NDS mode flashcart inserted)
  • Double Micro SD slot (with a switch for swapping between the first and the second SD card)
It would be great to build a 3ds with these features.

You can drill a hole alongside the normal charging port, and insert a micro USB port there, and since the battery supports the same voltage as most USB chargers, you can solder the port to where the normal port connects. You can do something similar to do wireless charging. You won't have space for a NDS flashcart inside.

For wireless charging and usb charging i know, and because i want to make my 3ds usb rechargable i'm getting a Micro USB female to male cable. I'll cut the cable and solder the + and - pins on the dock pins but from the inside of the console.
The problem is for the other things, I mean

You won't have space for an NDS flashcart, period.
You can charge the battery faster without mods, but it might damage it.
Rig or replace the backlight to make it brighter
If you can manage to install a small LED, you can have a flashlight.
See if you can replace the cameras with better ones that are compatible, but you'll need to figure out the video format they output
If you can somehow adapt a capture card to work with HDMI, then you can, but it doesn't sound doable
If you can do the mods for a double microSD setup, then go for it.

These are my thoughs on it. Personally, I haven't done any physical mods to my n3DS XL, so I wouldn't know from experience. I have, however replaced a trigger, so I know the inside of one.

I don't have enough money for a capture card, but the other things seems ok.

I didn't see a Hard mod for NAND access on your list so why not?

This will Boost Headphone Audio not the Speakers

Replace the C-Stick Cap wit the PSP one?

As for the rest why not a companion device? Something small With a little tinkering you could use a raspberry pi & a cheap WiFi adapter to make a little box you could run to controller redirect and send video to the TV? Maybe Homepass? If you did the Bluetooth audio mod and USB charging you could pack speaker and power bank inside? Assuming you can run kit-kat or something like it on the raspberry.. I am interested to see how many of these things you pack in that crowded 3ds housing!

Nice idea, But I think that in a 3ds housing only a Pi0 and a small powerbank can fit.

Wish an amiiqo would fit in the 3ds case. On board amiibo emulation would be cool.. OP even if you are not interested in actually doing them what mods have you seen?
I've heard rumors about people emulating amiibos by screwing with the NFC register. Maybe amiiquo will not be necessary soon

It would be better than trying to fit an amiiqo in the original new 3ds xl shell

I know, It's tight. What about making a box similar to a circle pad pro without the circle pad. make it clip on the the 3ds. I am sure someone around here can 3ds print something like that. or anything really. It could be an Altoids container like my raspberry-pi media player I made a while back. Just something small to keep in the 3DS case or your other pocket. with amiiqo? How about you gut a action replay ds, Try putting a R4 in there with the amiiqo and Pi? Then you could have an all in one? LOL

Uhm... It would work, but... a fat 3ds wouldn't be... ugly?

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
