Hi all, i have an Old 3Ds at firmware 3.0.0-6U and would like to mod it to b9s. If i update to latest firmware 11.6.0 and start modding it would it be too difficult?

How do i update the firmware to between 9.0 - 11.3 and use the soundhax method to mod?

Do you have any 3DS game cartridges with which you could use to update the system? If so, you could try to update to 4.x or 6.x (but not 5.x or anything higher than 6.x if you're aiming for the MSET method) with an older game and then use the MSET method to hack your console (but the MSET method also requires a DS flashcart).

If you have no games to update with you'll need to look into a hardmod or getting a DS flashcart which has "ntrboot" installed to it.

See also https://3ds.guide.

Updating to 11.6 (I don't recommend this) will enable you to use DSiwarehax, but that requires a second console, another old 3DS in your case, since you can't system transfer from N3DS to O3DS.

I have quite alot of game catriages to try. However is it not possible to use game cart update to 9.0.9 - 11.3.0 and use the soundhax method? Will soundhax really be broken?

Is 6.0 mset method the only way in this case?

Actually in your situation, any NTRBoot compatible cart be used can still boot and be flashed with NTRBoot. I suggest checking out either the R4i Gold or Ak2i and checking out The Guide. With this method, you not only can install B9S on any OFW (past, current, and future,) but you also get a flashcart in for DS games!

That should work, yes, just keep the console under 11.4/11.5/11.6 if you decide to go down that path.

Thank you for the advise. I will try to use game cart update to 11.0.0 and use soundhax method to try. Hopefully it works.

No! That wont work. You will be at 9.0+ stuck with a sound app that isn't updated (that's a nver title that carts don't have).

Sorry, I was wrong, make sure to read Zoogie's post. I wasn't aware of an update to the sound application.

In that case, what solution can i explore? Would like to avoid ntrboot as i don't want to get those r4 cards etc.

both of which i might add are more expensive than ntrboot. especially the latter (DSiware) if you don't already have a second system.

In addition to what ihaveamac and Lilith have said, you also require an Old 3DS console if you get the second system, because you cannot transfer from the "New" 3DS/"New" 2DS to an "old" 3DS.

Damn...thanks guys...seems like either ntrboot or get a new 3ds is the only option for me.

Kinda wonder if this could possibly work:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/beta-spider-ds-profile-roploader-4-x-only.380725/

Probably have that somewhere on my hard drive but i don't know where to start to look.
Of course you would need a 4.x game to update to that firmware range.

Apache Thunder's mirror for it still works (apparently; the page loaded on my browser, but I don't have the correct console to test it with), so maybe.

Edit: I'm referring to http://www.battlefieldsingleplayer.com/apachethunder/Images/gateway/index_msett.html

not really sure about gateway. im quite new to the scene...
It really has nothing to do with the gateway flashcard. What we're proposing is that if you were updated to 4.x, you could use the public spider browser exploit (compatible with your browser) to install the DS profile exploit (MSET). This would allow you to ultimately launch safeB9Sinstaller and get cfw. This method isn't covered by "The Guide" because of its age and obscurity, but it should definitely work.

You need to update to 4.0-4.5 using a cart first, though. Then we can go from there.
Go through your cart library and see if one of your games is in the correct firmware range.
Use the search feature here:
http://3dsdb.com/
it has the firmware versions if you scroll right.

His browser version may be too old for that to work. But it's certainly worth a try.
I think even Gateway only works with browser versions starting at X.X.X-7, and I believe the early spider exploit stuff is based on Gateway's ROP.

he could probably just rename code.bin to arm11.bin and use
http://dukesrg.github.io/2xrsa.html?arm11.bin
Same browser version.

If that doesn't work, I could just add the cfg:nor dsprofile code myself in 2xrsa if it comes to it.
