So glad I didn't even use the Switch after I bought it.
why wouldn't you? if I bought a new console, I'd be all over it. even if you want to preserve the system version for homebrew, you can just block the update server.

Rofl. "So glad I bought a $300 paperweight."

$380 including the $80 extra for a usable controller. I can't speak for others but I bought the Switch specifically for homebrew and playing backups. It can sit and collect dust. So I might have to wait a while to play the few worthwhile Switch games coming out. I'm not interested in pared down versions of games that have superior versions on superior platforms for less money.

He said "eventually". That could be years from now.
Creating a homebrew toolchain/environment is not something that can be done quickly. Maybe if we had the Switch SDK we would be able to make homebrew sooner, but it would be illegal homebrew.
Based on how quickly daeken made an emulator and his discussion in a live stream of how he plans to do homebrew, wouldn't be surprised if the tool chain was done within a month, if not already close. Based on the picture in his post I would say this is already part of the toolchain being developed. My bet is we will have homebrew within the next 12 months, and that's my conservative guess. I would say it will be sooner rather than later.

Homebrew is gonna take a long time, and backups might not happen at all past 3.0.0. IMO it's only worth buying a device to hack/exploit when you can actually do something with it immediately afterward.

to be honest, for people with jobs and whatnot who are just too unsure of wether or not to update, just start saving money now, so when the switch gets blown open, just buy a switch on an exploitable FW at a slightly inflated price. if you save now, you'll be able to afford it later.
