I'm having an issue that Windows is claiming that about half or so of the .arc files are corrupted from the luma patch. Is there a fix for this?

Personally, I just download the patch to my phone and use 7Zipper 2.0 to unzip the file and use the FTP server to wirelessly put the patch onto my 3DS. Takes a bit of time, but it works. Hope I helped.

Decided to make an account to help out here with all the confusion...

If you have Luma, when having patching enabled so you can use the English translation, you can't use NTR plugins. Trying to load the game with both NTR plugins and enabled patching will always cause an arm 11 exception handler message to appear and the device will then turn off. That means that if you want to use NTR cheats with the game you need to first deactivate patching in the Luma options menu. Additionally, just to clarify, there is no point in trying to use NTR to apply the patch since the method is now outdated.

Hmm... Interesting. I enabled Luma patching to circumvent the need for an update English patch, but still launching the game through NTR and loading the clock+battery plugin with NTR, while leaving the english patch to Luma. No crashes, no error, everything runs fine. I think the crash only happens when you're trying to actually apply patches on both Luma and NTR. I think the clock overlay doesn't qualify as a real patch, while a translation or a cheat does.

I should have clarified even better that the crash occurs during the function right before the 3DS logo at the start and only when using either another patch plugin or one that adds extra menu options or key combos (eg: "game plugin" in the X+Y menu or Select or whatever for V2 cheat plugins). Don't know what exactly the clock+battery plugin does, but for example, I can use the "display plugin" that comes alone some cheats while not being able to use the cheat plugin itself. I should also have mentioned I'm using Mode-3 on an O2DS, but I've tested what I posted on a N3DS too, just less extensively.

Also, I decided to just test @Vermil 's update CIA that includes the English patch to see if it works with ntr cheats on and not having to use Luma patching or switch between the two just so I can do an update on my last post (about time) and it works great! Thanks Vermil for making that file, it makes things quite simpler since while I do know enough Japanese to not have problems, I still had to avoid crafting half the time because I have trouble with many of the Kanjis used for the skill names... For anyone interested, follow what he said on a post on page 38, don't want to post his link in case he's not ok with it.

One last thing, for anyone wanting a general ntr cheats for MHXX, speedfly has updated their plugin quite a while ago to support V1.2.

Does anyone has a link for a 1.2.0 update cia ? I can't find it anywhere and can't update directly on my 3ds.
Thanks oer advance
Either google for it (if you find the video on youtube about it uploaded by me, "Tho Tho", you can get the one I uploaded, won't post link here though, but many others have uploaded it too all over the place) or instead just read my last post about how a certain wonderful person made a CIA with the update and english patch in one and mentioned where to find it on page 38 (he posted it on someone's profile page)... Otherwise, you can always just use FreeShop for it!:P

So how do you guys edit the text? I'm curious because I am considering starting a translation for the regular dialogue

Just browse the game files, find the file corresponding to what you want to translate (eg: hunter_note.arc in romfs/village if you want to translate the hunter notes) and translate using the program of your choice (even a plain old hex editor should do for most).

I tried that, data just seemed to be mostly garbage in HxD, any programs you'd recommend?

I know how it's all scrambled and all, but that may be encryption or whatever, for some games I've tried it worked (eg: Resident Evil Revelations to change the missions), so perhaps some games need extra steps. Not sure to be honest, haven't tried translating anything on the 3DS yet, I'm more of a PSP guy...

You need to extract .arc files in order to do anything with it. Most of the stuffs in the .arc files are the GUI parts (which also includes some of the texts on screen).
If you're looking to translate texts and stuffs (likely to be in the .gmd files), you'll probably need a more specialized tool to read/write into the file. I made one myself but it's only for reading the contents of the file.

After extracting the ones under "arc", Kuriimu seems to work fine with them and also works fine with the "table" ones without need for extracting.

https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki/Options-and-usage (scroll down to the "enable game patching" explanation and it has the steps you need to follow.

Basically "Luma"->"titles"->"[gameid]"->patch files and once you do that on the SD card, boot while pressing select to bring up the Luma options, then choose the enable game patching one.
