Hello everyone... I want to get an old 2ds so that I can get CFW on my 11.5 3ds by doing a DSiWare transfer... Has anyone recently bought a 2ds from Gamestop and if you have, what firmware version was it?? I'm looking for one with 11.0 or lower just to be safe. Also, Is there a way to safely update a CFW 3ds to 11.5 without losing access to Luma3ds/Homebrew??

First, an O2DS (in the box new) will very likely be on 11.3 or lower.

As for updating to 11.5 on a system that already has B9S and Luma3DS installed, that is perfectly safe. Once B9S and Luma3DS are installed to a system, updates cannot delete B9S.

Ok thank you so much... Of course its just my luck that none of the Gamestops nearby have used 2ds, so I have to get a new one... you're sure about 11.3 or lower?

You didn't read my post carefully. You want a new one, not a used one. A used one could have been updated to 11.4 or 11.5. An O2DS new in the box will almost certainly be on 11.3 or lower.

11.0 is no safer than 11.3. Just buy used and return it if it's 11.4 or higher. They have a 7-day window on unconditional returns.
Ask if you can try before you buy but they might say no.
You can test it in the parking lot and quickly return it if it's the wrong firmware.

No yeah I know... Im just saying that none of the Gamestops nearby have used ones... One of my friends told me to get a used one but he's known for lying so I just wanted to check first.

Does it Matter what 2ds I get? Like will the firmware of the red one be different from the firmware of the blue one??

Looks like their return policy is much less stringent for used merchandise. Buy used.

New (old)2ds's are not guaranteed to be 11.3 or less anymore. 11.4 has been out for 4 months now which is about a month passed the manufacturing lead time of 3 months (I have 26 3ds's so I have a lot of experience with this). Don't risk it.

You think Nintendo updates to the latest firmware on its refurbished online store 3DS systems?
They update to whatever version is the latest at the time of the refurbishment. They don't update then their entire inventory of 3DSes each time a firmware update is released.

Refurbs are a gamble because you have no control over which 3DS you get, and no idea when an individual 3DS was refurbished.

Buying a 2DS new is the safest bet for this purpose. Getting one used one from a shop is the next best option (ask to inspect it beforehand, say you want to check the screen for dead pixels or something).
