Most of the exploit installers don't work past 11.2, hell some of them don't work past 11.0....

If the exploit works on "XX" firmware, that doesn't mean the installer does. I know it's kind of dumb but it is what it is.

Downgrade your console to 11.2 or lower and then try to install stickerhax again

Wasn't there a way to run the Homebrew launcher on 11.4?
changing a certain payloads file name to 11.4 or something like that

stock systems have new payloads for n3ds systems for hb to work. stock o3ds systems still need a completed reworked payload to get hb to work. Still at this time there are no working old 3ds system payloads for stock systems

Any estimate as to when that will be? And does that mean I should stop updating my DS?
ntrboothax will work on any firmware, past, current and future. It uses a hidden feature in the 3DS bootrom, which is the same across all 3DS models, and can't be updated. So it's not affected whatsoever by firmware updates.
Though you could buy a used 2DS/3DS on an appropriate firmware (11.3 or below), use it to hack your 3DS, and sell it afterwards, and it wouldn't cost you much money, and that way you wouldn't have to wait for ntrboothax.
It could take months before ntrboothax is released, no one really knows at this point, but testers do have it working with certain flashcarts (mainly AK2i)

So if I get a flashcart, I can use it? I really just want to use Freeshop asap, and I don't even have a CFW

If you are in a hurry to get CFW you are probably better off buying a used 2DS/3DS on <=11.3 and using it for dsiware game injection, transferring the game to your 3DS and using that to hack it then reselling the used console at no loss, you'll only be out shipping (and maybe eBay's fees if you buy from there)
As for ntrboothax you are probably better off waiting. If you buy an AK2i now, you're still going to need a way to install the exploit to it, which requires either a hacked 2/3DS or a PowerSaves. Once ntrboothax is released there should be pre-flashed carts so you don't have to buy extra hardware.
There is also this thread: https://gbatemp.net/threads/3ds-cfw-install-service.479863/
Some people are offering to do 3DS CFW installs, it will probably cost you some money (shipping + a small fee) but if you're not willing to do the work buying a used console and using it to hack yours and reselling it afterwards, it may be worth it.
Do note that you can get a brand new 2DS for around $80 in US that's guaranteed to be on a hackable firmware (which you can use to hack your current 3DS) so it's not worth it if the service ends up costing more than that.

Oh my God I didn't even know that 2DSs can be hacked right away. Are you saying that there is no firmware limitations?

All brand new consoles right now (to my knowledge) come on 11.3 or less except for the n2DS XL.
The "new" 2DS bundle that was just announced for North America (it's on the front page) will likely come with a higher firmware though.
I think the cheapest option to hack your 3DS right now would be to buy a used console on appropriate firmware, use it to hack yours (it's not hard, there's a guide on http://3ds.guide, all you need is a few dollars to spend on a DSiWare game) and then sell it. But buying a brand new console makes it easier to find one that's on an appropriate firmware, you won't make back your original investment if you decide to sell it after using it to hack yours though.

Okay, thanks for the help. You've been the most helpful/coherent person I've run into on this website.
