Hi guys! Just got a local N2DSXL. I've been doing a lot of reading on CFW installations and was hoping someone can help a noob get some clarity on whether I can get CFW, and how:

- I have a stock N2DSXL and no other 3DS/2DS console
- Stock N2DSXL comes with v11.4 OFW
- Friend of mine has an original 3DS with v7.1.0-14u (no CFW) - let's call her N

I'm going to borrow her 3DS for a couple of days. Could someone help me confirm the following steps?

1. Install B9S and Luma directly on N's 3DS.
2. Update N's to 11.3 and use CTR-httpwn to buy one of the DSiWareHax titles off the E-Shop.
3. Update my N2DSXL to 11.5
4. Use DSiWare Game Injection to ultimately put B9S and Luma on my N2DSXL.
5. Wait a week, then System Transfer back the NNID to N's 3DS and create my own on mine.

So... Is that about it? Sorry, it's my first time doing this and I'd hate ti screw up either set. Really hoping someone experienced can guide me along!

Also, is there a need for the NNID transfer if neither of us have gone online? I obviously haven't, and she's not too sure (hasn't touched her 3DS in 2 years lol).

Thanks guys!

If N is on such a low OFW, just follow The Guide to setting up a CFW on that version, then update it to the latest OFW.
From there follow the Guide to doing a DSiwarehax and transfer

Ah yes, forgot to mention I've been reading 3ds.guide. Thanks Lilith!

So, once I get CFW up on N's 3DS, I can update it to the latest OFW with the CFW still intact so I can buy the necessary game off the E-Shop to DSiWareHax my own machine, right?

Also, I see that The Guide has no mention of DSiWareHax for 11.4 for N2DSXL. Should I just leave mine on 11.4 or must I go to 11.5 before I can do DSiWareHax?

I think all the exploitable dsiware were pulled from the shop
But there is the list of injectable games. So that's been covered too.

You should have one system completely hacked and prepared. So this means already got your exploited game and you are on 11.5.
Then update the target system to 11.5 and preform the system transfer.

Roger that. So I will:

1. Put B9S and Luma on N's.
2. Update N's B9S'ed 3DS to 11.5.
3. Buy one of the Injectable games off the E-Shop legitimately on N's.
4. Then update my own N2DSXL to 11.5 and then use DSiWareHax to put B9S and Luma on it.
5. Then Sys Transfer.

Should be about right then I guess. Thank you again!

Yup, just as The Guide...guides...yeah~. Just go through all that and you will be on the road to having yourself a good time!

Ayy, "N" was just a bad choice for a nickname... things like "N's 3DS" really hurts a diagonal reader like me. It took me three reads to understand what it meant.

Quick question. It’s been a while since over done a transfer to install cfw. The source 3ds remains CFW’d correct?

Just wanted to specify that you won't be able to do this step, as you cannot perform a system transfer from a N3ds/N2ds to an o3ds.
Yes, I just realized this.
But what if he formats his n2DSXL after system transfer, so that the NNID gets unlocked from the n2DSXL and then restores the NAND backup on his friend’s o3DS? The NNID would be back on the o3DS with all original stuff from her friend’s console and it should work since it’s no longer tied to the n2DSXL.
Or does she have to re-register it on the o3DS after restoring NAND because it has been untied by system transfer from that console?

If your infering to restore a NAND backup on a different system NEVER do that, it will brick the console.

No. I was inferring restore the NAND backup from his friend’s console to his friend’s console.
1. Install CFW to his friend’s 3DS.
2. Install dsiwarehax on his friend’s 3DS.
3. Backup his friend’s 3DS NAND
4. System trasfer to his n2DSXL and install CFW there.
At this point his friend’s 3DS will be wiped (but still CFW’d)
He then may format his n2DSXL to unlink his friend’s NNID that got transfered in point 4 and restore the NAND backup ON HIS FRIEND’S 3DS, so that she gets back all her stuff AND her NNID. She may need to go back to system settings and re-register her NNID because it would be restored by restoring the NAND, but since she system transferred, the NNID may be no longer linked to her console even if she restored the NAND.

That’s what I was asking. If it could work.
My only doubt is if a NNID that was unlinked through system transfer and then “artificially” restored by restoring the NAND could give problems.

That won't work. The NNID is linked to the console it transferred to, the info is kept on Nintendo's servers. Formatting just signs you out of it. A console can have an unlimited number of NNIDs linked to it, but just one signed in at a time. Formatting just signs out so you can make a new one or sign into one of the others that are linked.
What will happen is when he tries to use the eShop or any other service that uses the NNID, all his purchased content will disappear off the home menu because the system will delete all the tickets associated when it realises it isn't linked to that NNID anymore.

Theoretically he could do a ctrnand transfer. It is unknown behaviour what will happen if the n2dsxl goes under 11.4.
