This is what I have.

I haven't been using my old 3ds for some time since I haven't found a game worth playing. I have been waiting on the fansub of The Great Ace Attorney, but now there is one game I want to play and that is the new Metroid game. I am on 9.2.0 sysnand and rxtools 11.1.0 emunand started through mset. I like that setup because then I can keep the 3ds almost as stock if I want to sell it later or something and only use emunand when I need to. I read that it is very easy to go from rxtools to Luma by only replacing some files on the sdcard, but all the guides I find involves hacking sysnand. I want to use the method with the least risk of bricking. Is there an easier way of installing Luma than hacking sysnand or is it possible to play newer games on my rxtools setup in some way?

There's really no risk of bricking as long as you follow the instructions in https://3ds.guide exactly. You can also uninstall cfw using the guide if you really want to, but you can usually sell a hacked console for more than a non-hacked one.

No, RXTools doesn't even work with EmuNAND above 11.2 or 11.3 I don't remember exactly. Your setup is pretty ancient IMO but if you want to continue using MSET you can. Head over to the luma release thread and download V7.0.5 and then go here https://github.com/AuroraWright/Lum...rade/7b1fe3490d1e1f03429084bc51a27235e6ebd387 to the older versions of the WIKI to get instructions on how to replace your RXTools with Luma.

Alternatively, you can of course install Boot9Strap.

Are there any major downsides of using Luma V7.0.5 instead of the latest version? Is it still possible to update emunand to the latest firmware?

well I'm now up to
    1. Launch safehax from the list of homebrew
    2. You may have to scroll down to see this option
  • If you get a “PM INIT FAILED” error, make sure you ran udsploit with Wireless Communication turned on
  • If you still get a “PM INIT FAILED” error, try using the r19 release of safehax
  • If it freezes, just force the console to power off by holding the power button, then try again
I just keep getting a garbled top screen??

There might be the same problem with safehaxpayload.bin being named .bin.bin

sorry to both you again.
it worked I did the code to install boot9.
guide says it boots into luma3ds but mine went back to home screen ??

Try turning the device off and turning it on while holding select
that worked tops.
I did Show NAND or user string in System Settings and it reboots to home screen. do I now wipe SD card and start on next part of guide?

Yes you can, but if there's another firmware update you might have to update to B9S since a9lh won't be supported by any new Luma versions.

Don't wipe the SD card. Just continue
next section
Section II - Updating the System
as this is all fresh do I need to do anything with nands?
and to update is that the main 3ds and do I need to have wifi connected?
