Well ain't this some shit. I really thought wii u was 100% dead. As long as it doesnt affect haxchi its cool i suppose but now buying a 2nd hand wii u system is gonna be a bitch

great so i can still use the browser. i remember on the wii you couldn't use the shop channel or weather channel until you updated.

edit: oh and facepalm myself. there won't be any new wii u's so all wii u's will be 5.5.1 or lower. it's early in the morning my brain isn't working yet. :)

One thing is sure: if Wii U that you buy don't have 5.5.1 already, buy Paper Mario Color Splash disc, since it comes with 5.5.1 update, or you'll only be able to update to 5.5.2 (or if another update come in future, the latest update).

Hi

I just heard about 5.5.2 being released, so just checked our console and its still on 5.5.1e Looks like this localDNS service I am running on my Windows file server has saved us from the update.

I didn't install a custom firmware or anything like that, mainly because it looked too difficult to do at the time and I was worried about bricking the system.

Is there anything else we should now be doing / looking into, now this new 5.5.2 update is out ?

I am a "newbie" so not an expert or anything when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks.

As i see that you are a beginner on Wii U hacking world, i suggest you to follow sections that you are interested to put in your Wii U: https://github.com/FlimFlam69/WiiUTutorial/wiki

Is the best tutorial and also worry about each detail of each section that it shows there.

Good luck on that! ;]

Thanks I will take a read.

So the advantages of doing a Kernel Exploit are I can then run the HomeBrew Channel directly from the system menu, currently I have to use the web browser exploit to load it.

I will also be able to install and play CFW game titles, I cannot currently do this.

Would you also recommend redNand having the system menu running on the SD card ?

Currently using "Wii U USB Helper" program and wupinstaller and a USB hard drive.

Thanks.

I recommend that you buy Brain Academy DS game from Wii U eShop and follow and execute what section 5 'Installing Coldboot Haxchi" says VERY CAREFULLY, since any mistake and your Wii U is bricked for good.

But, if you do it carefully and NEVER move hacked DS game from Nand to an USB, you'll be fine, like i am.

And, that is it.

those with CHBC also get the update notification?
I thought haxchi spoof the firmware version to 99.99.99 or it's simply a text change and not related to actual update checking itself?
I've gotten the notification twice, but not directly. Lego Dimensions notified me my console needed to be updated because it accesses eshop content.

is there any work around for myself who has 532? can I spoof, download DS game, install haxchi?
Sure. Look at my guide. There is a list of games that have 5.5.1 update.

As of right now you can either spoof, or update after HaxChi is installed or just stay on 5.5.1. without spoof. Any of those options will work.

Thanks, curious because wupinstaller.com still has 551 are we on our own to get the version bin for 552?

What? If you're on 5.3.2 then just get a game with the 5.5.1 update on it. Install that update then install HaxChi using NNU Patcher. After that you can either stay on 5.5.1 and (right now you can still play online with 5.5.1) or you can spoof to 5.5.2 (no reason yet though) or if you have HaxChi go ahead and update to 5.5.2. HaxChi still works but none of the Webexploits do.

Is there a way to use eShop with 5.3.2 by spoofing to 5.5.2 ( I am currently spoofed to 5.5.1) to get the DS game? Or is there no point in doing that first because you cant install haxchi on 5.3.2?

Correct. You must be on 5.5.1 to install HaxChi

so first update to 5.5.1 using a game. Then use NNU patcher to download a valid DS game for HaxChi. You don't need to spoof to get valid DS game. Just use NNU patcher while on 5.5.1 and you can access eshop.

I personally have the update servers blocked using cc proxy, and I also deleted the update folder in storage_mlc/sys , so I think I'm fully protected. :P I was paranoid that the system silently updated despite all that (just deleted the update folder today), and I couldn't check without uninstalling cbhc first, so I checked browser hax. the homebrew launcher booted right up via my hosted files with xampp. :)
