I haven't touched my Wii U in a long while. At this point I don't remember what is/isn't done to it.. I know I've got Haxchi on it. And have been able to get games on it via Wii U Usb helper. I vaguely remember that there were certain things that needed to happen to support being able to install updates/DLC to any given title. If I'm remembering incorrectly, just say so. But if there's something I can do/check that'll let me know, then please fill me in on what that'd be. Thanks ^_^.

You can install DLC and updates using Wii U USB Helper in the same way you installed your games. To install DLC, you need to run CFW, which you already have in the form of Haxchi. You could also install your updates through the normal means on the Wii U if you don't have an update-blocking DNS set.

Unless his Haxchi version is below 2.5u2 then he doesn't have built-in CFW.

Thanks guys. I'll check my version when I get home. This was only 3 or 4 months ago so it shouldn't be too far out of date. I just can't remember all of the details because I've done a lot since then ;).
