I am getting things ready to hack my wii u and I have a few questions, especially since many of the "stickies" are old.

First, what is the best way to back up save data as well as downloaded games so they can be installed to a different (hacked) system. Is saviine and ddd still the best way or are there better ways now such as savemii?

Also, now that iosuhax is out is there any way to back up the vWii stuff to allow recovery from any potential bricks? Do I just back up the slccmpt01 folder (in addition to the standard xyzzy key backup and nand dump)?

Finally, I want to have Haxchi with the ability to use either rednand via mocha or a sigpatched sysnand. Is this how to set that up:

Code:
a=wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/homebrew_launcher.elf
b=wiiu/apps/wupinstaller/wupinstaller.elf
x=sysmenu
default=wiiu/apps/mocha/mocha.elf

There is no reason to install Haxchi to boot mocha. That's like using a custom firmware to launch another custom firmware on top of each other. Haxchi is a CFW by itself, if you set it up to boot "sysmenu" as default.

Just use Haxchi, and set it up like this -

default=sysmenu

That way when you run Haxchi from the WiiU system menu, it will load CFW without pressing any buttons or anything. At that point you will be running CFW with Sigpatches. Then you can go on and install Homebrew Launcher Channel, and any more Channels or Forwards you like.

And Rednand is mainly just for Developers, so devs can mess around with system files without the risk of bricking their console. I would just go with Haxchi by itself, or Haxchi with CBHC if you want Sigpatches on boot.

I wouldn't mess around with Rednand though. But it's up to you.

Follow Kafluke's Noob guide to WiiU hacking, the link to his guide is in my Signature. His guide explains everything you need to know about Custom Firmware.

Ok then, how about vWii backing up and save/title backups?

Also, is this guide https://github.com/FlimFlam69/WiiUTutorial/wiki still any good?

Also, is it safe to transfer a smash bros save from one wii u system to another or will that cause problems with online play?

themes will not brick the virtual wii if u install them over the system menu with ftp everywhere or wupclient. I forgot the location, but I'm using a theme myself. :D I think it might take a second or two longer to boot up, but everything works. don't use the old methods though. there's a new method somewhere on this board.

it's this file 0000001f.app for usa, different for eur or jpn. I forgot its location. I did backup the original in case something bad did happen. backup first. I'm sure u can get it back even if u don't back it up, but that's what I'd suggest. it's the vWii main system menu. altering it is dangerous but doable. it's not really so dangerous though if u back up the file. lol this is in reference to that guide on that other site since it says u'll brick. this is true but only for old ways like mystify - I think that was the name of the app. :-P

Even if he bricks and doesn't have backup, I always have a clean dump of slcmttp. You just need to ask :P
