If you were expecting this to be a huge thread, its not. I'm just looking for opinions at the moment and then moving on make a more dedicated thread since I saw it no where on Google or the internet.

Zelda Breath of the wild is all about open world adventure, and with that you can do whatever you'd like in the game (even the story as well.) However I saw the potential one time after "shield surfing" there wasn't a lot of entertaining areas to actually do cool tricks, it just kind of served as a way to get to point A to point B, and so the thought came to me "Hey, why don't we add a leve builder!"

Looking back at other games like Infamous 2 which had a online "level builder", Super Mario Maker and Little Big Planet which all had the potential to allow the player to do as they please (With limited / appropriate levels depending on how well moderated content is.) Other games like Grand Theft Auto 5 also have this setup where you can make missions (which are levels.) In the game, encouraging more open world gameplay/adventure/action to the online mode.

Thinking about the concept, combining an online world/stage editor (On the original map, you cannot make your own "custom maps" (unless Nintendo thinks otherwise it's possible) with an open world adventure games actually sounds like a great idea to me, and I think it would add more of an interesting impact on the player base and give a reason to purchase Nintendo's online service. That is, provided you would like to play other users stages (You can make your own and play it in Single player.)

Leave some thoughts & suggestions below!
Edit: And yes this counts towards the Wii U to,

"Have a stage builder unknown but mostly (answer)" I added in case anyone feels its not possible due to stuff like DLC, additions, or problems. Vote the answer you'd like if you still like / or dislike the idea though.

Do shrines count as levels? Then yes.

Maybe even Skyrim style mods, though Nintendo won't allow them.

You can use a shrine template or the overworld (The shrine template will allow full customization, however it may look un-decorated. The overworld will have limited customization due to terrain, however the level would look a lot nicer looking for aesthetics/cosmetics.)

I think the overworld would be tricky. the whole point is that it's vast.

A Shrine builder makes perfect sense through, you can stick overworld elements in it. Like Portal.

So who is ready to make some science?

It would be cool to setup checkpoints for Shield Surfing Courses, upload them and have a leader board with times or even ghosts, you could stick some air checkpoints in for jumps and stuff.

waiting for that shity shack someone makes and trys to call a shrine they make

Some content could be decently well made, I have played Infamous 2 and played both a lot of crappy levels and a lot of good ones/funny ones.

I'm sure the community could figure out what to make that remains unique in the game.

Also and bump :P

They should do a OG Zelda maker or an ALttP maker. Those use 2D graphics so it should be easier to make, maybe. I'm also not sure it would be fun to make and play levels.

Well, I don't want this like Mario Maker thats the thing, it wouldn't be focused on finding stages directly or making them like how much Mario Maker is involved. (With puzzle solving or platforming) As stupid as it sounds, the main reason why I thought of the idea is becuase the game is focused and has an emphasis on doing anything you want in an open world adventure game, and basically what you want to do (the player) That is fun. Not a lot of games offer that type of style of gameplay and its rare to see a game with so many mechanics in a game where at first from one moment your running from point A to point B and then all of a sudden gliding & shield surfing to get to areas faster, it would seem perfect to include something like that. Whether someone likes the idea of fighting & PvPing with some of the monsters in tense battles at an area, or creating a shield surfing course, or puzzle game, or mini game, or a side story (mission I guess made by a player.)
Nintendo has all been about creating unique ideas and putting them into effect which not a lot of companies offer, take Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, since sales were low on the Wii U, Nintendo decided to port it over on the Switch which is an extremely genius idea. Not only did players get to enjoy the game if they never purchased the Wii U, but they also get new battle courses, I don't want this thread to focus on "Oh how bad this idea is becuase", I want people to leave feedback in order to make a more thought out thread. Sure, Super Mario Maker may be a reason why people would say its a bad idea. However with open world elements in the game, and some awesome game mechanics almost no other game offers I am sure that people could create MORE enjoyable content along with Mario Maker. And besides, Nintendo has suprised us several times with new content we thought would be "to boring" take Super Smash bros Brawl for example, no one liked the idea at first at Nintendo's CEO/HQ, however when it was published and put out to the public everyone loved the game, and still to this day it remains popular.

And I'm saying that the scale is simply too big for a user content game. Nobody's going to spend a month designing the perfect cliff face, and having drop-in mountains will make the world look eerily repetitive.

However, if you turn it into a shrine, then you can easily do anything. You can construct just the portion of the cliff face needed for your trial. You don't need to worry about designing a backdrop of mountains.

There could probably be a few solutions for designing things on the surface of the world. I know the Switch is able to utilize a touch pad & some various ways to play in the game/control schemes (Like motion controls for instance.)

I know some other tools could make it easier to build on the surface like having a "grid snap" option, or enabling touch screen controls can really make it easier to move things in the game in comparison to just manually selecting/deselecting something each time someone wants to move / edit something. (or/and cordinates for specific 3D builds.)

But those are just a few ideas I have to fix those issues and make it more convenient/ easier to build in game.

As far as building things weeks / months on edge. I don't want to make buildings extremely complex or confusing to make. I know one way to fix that is to make it easier to have other ways to build control wise (above.) But also provide a way to easily select and edit things like for example, artifical trees, grass, and building blocks (length, width, height, so fourth.) On the fly,

Those are all just a few ideas I have to fix those issues though.
