Hardware Why do people call the switch a handheld/portable?

Because it uses mobile hardware and is extremely weak and slow compared to real consoles.
'Real consoles'? :p

The Switch is essentially a "Wii U Pro" instead of a real upgrade, much like the Wii was to GameCube. If we're to compare the Switch to other consoles, it's comparable to the 360, PS3 and WiiU which were all real consoles.

The Switch is my Wii U with the ability to leave past my driveway.. and carry it in a ridiculous bag doing so.

Despite being portable and (in its weakest configuration) handheld, the Switch doesn't fit in my jeans pocket (like my n3ds xl does), so doesn't (and won't) replace the 3ds range imho.
Duh, didn't you know, to carry the Switch you need a briefcase. Only true business men have Switches.

LOL, because it is literally a handheld portable gaming device that just so happens can also be played on the TV. You can spin that however you want, but the fact of the matter is it is literally a portable, handheld gaming device, no one should be faulted for calling it a handheld or a portable.

But hey, lets break down both of those words and see if they do indeed apply to the Switch:

Handheld: adjective designed to be held in the hand.

Portable: adjective able to be easily carried or moved, especially because of being a lighter and smaller version than usual.

By all measures of what the Switch is and is capable of meets both of those term's definitions. Yes, it is absolutely a handheld and a portable system.

It isn't a handheld or a portable. It is a CONSOLE that CAN be used as a portable. Judging by the size and the fact that the n2ds xl is coming out it should be more than clear that this is not meant to be a 3ds successor. Its like people try to justify it's lack of power by saying its a handheld.
cause semantics? it's a portable console with a dock for enhanced tv playabillity.

Curious, I a) had no idea duck was not commonly eaten... everywhere and b) certainly had no idea there were objections like that. c) I have done Brazilian restaurants and "meat, meat and more meat" seems to be the order of the day, as it seems to be in Brazilian cooking in general, ultimately a bit pork heavy for my taste but the sentiment I can certainly appreciate.

We love our meat.
We even have our bbq culture.
My family does bbqs every weekend lol.
Vegans are not really welcome in Brazil.

But seriously, the "logic" behind the OP is flawed af.
A console that can be used as a handheld?
The same could be said otherwise.

"It's a handheld that can be connected to a TV, then becoming a console."
I don't recall people connecting their Android phones with HDMI to a TV and then calling it an Android TV Box.

Just accept the fact that it is meant mostly as an overpowered handheld device which can be connected to a TV with a proper dock to be played as a home-console.

Theres a restaurant near by which I know is probably not authentic Brazilian called Texas de Brazil. Its around 20-30$ per person and they come around with various steak dishes until you get full. I would eat there daily if it wasnt for the price lol. Meat is to building muscle to humans what soil is to grass.

Except that nintendo themselves call it a console.

They're fully aware of its portable functionality, and the marketing obviously reflects that. People buy Switch with the understanding that it's a hybrid console.

It isn't a home console with handheld mode for sure. It is a handheld/ tablet with a TV mode. Just look at it! It's a portable device with a small display and a moblile GPU... only because of the docking station which allows you to connect your switch to TV it's still a small device. Furthermore the docking station doesn't offer any additional hardware power, it's just for HDMI, design and additional USB ports. It is Nintendo's fault that people think it's a home console because they have named it as home console although it isn't!? It's silly to compare its hardware power with the power of ps4 and xbox one. Both consoles are stationary consoles... they aren't portable and they are much bigger devices offering more space for hardware power.
