System: New 3DS-XL
CFW: A9LH
FW version: 11.2
Sysnand: Yes
Emunand: No
Hax: Soundhax
Region: United States

***UPDATE as of April 30, 2017***
CFW: A9LH+Luma 7.0.4(previous was before v7.0)
FW version: 11.4
Sysnand: Japanese
Emunand: American
Hax: Doodlebomb
Region: American(although Godmode is now picking it up as Japanese, but the serial code is an American console nonetheless)

***ORIGINAL POST***
I am currently on A9LH on 11.2 and had tried several times to change the languages of not only my legit copies of SM3DL and Cubic Ninja, but plenty of freeShop/.cia installed games.

Here is how it goes...

-Boot HBL
-Select HANS
-Hold L to get to the options
-Change Region and/or Language to whatever(preferably the Japanese and Korean version of Tomodachi Life)
-Boots to either black screen or back to the HBL after giving the 4 Button Salute(L+R+B+Down)

I have no idea WHY it refuses to change the languages. Even on a legit copy, it won't. The only game that can on a .cia install is Animal Crossing: New Leaf, but it would corrupt my data if I change regions or languages(which is typical, and requiring SVDT or JKSM to back up my save).

I'm not asking for how to hack a game(I already know through PLENTY of PKMN hacks for 3DS via YouTube), just the ability of having to change the languages in-game. Especially since I can't read Japanese nor Korean(as the text is heavy on the black ? blocks, and unable to product Korean font AT ALL).

If I have to, I'll downgrade my N3DS-XL and get Emunand built in on my system for this to work. RxTools, A9LH, SaltFW, etc.,....anything, as long as I can play ANY games outside of The US and The UK in English.

And as far as I know, the video of Smea showing Luigi's Mansion in Russian is no longer on YouTube. But I remember seeing it and wanted to do the same on a .cia installed Japanese game on my American N3DS-XL.

If not, then how do I change my console's region from FW X.X.X-XX(U) to X.X.X-XX(J)?

Sorry if it doesnt make sense. But HANS is more important. Help???

Go to fbi's titledb and download luma locale changer. That might work. Just make sure you have region/language emulation checked in the luma config

I have Luma Locale. It won't do anything. I forgot to mention I'm on the most current(as of this post) version/nightly of Luma3DS.

Is there a complete set-up to Luma Locale that I need to have it work? And I mean "download with ALL the files and kernels to make it work correctly". I already saw one related to ROMfs and hacking PKMN X/Y/OR/AS, so that cancels it out.

I tried changing the region, language, & both. Still not giving me English text. Not even changing my American released freeShop/cia installed games into any other language.

I do have one other Luma Locale app, but it cannot get kernel access, or whatever the crud. So I'm up doo-doo creek over here.

Forgot to mention this as well, but European & Korean titles only work on HANS...not the home screen.

Luma Locale Changer is outdated. It still uses an old path that Luma no longer uses.

That explains my statement after dude replied. Huh? Well, thats a game-changer.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

The .txt file needed for region emulation for Luma nightly goes in SD:/luma/titles/<title ID>.
Tried that. Unless I'm doing something wrong? I entered the title ID as the name of my text. Still giving me no lead to read. Neither on HANS nor the other.

Tried that. Am I doing something wrong?

Tried it. Still nothing. Did everything from using an old Luma3DS version to the current one(stable and nightly). Nothing. Followed every instruction I could find and spent 5 Hours searching and doing everything...still nothing.
Do you have "Enable game patching" enabled in Luma settings?

A minor update. I'm testing Corbenik on Luma3DS to see if that does anything different. I got the set up down...all except Chainloader and Boot Firmware, and I'm not sure what files go where on the both?

Okay. I've finally got it working off home menu. European and Korean now works instead of giving me an error. Sorry for coming off cerebrally challenged, and making something simple seem so confusing. But its now functional.

As for Japanese version, it does boot up. But I wanna force an English text translation into this as well as the Korean version. I've already went through 3dsdb and seen the codes don't align like one of the Kirby games does(ex: CTR-X-XXXX or whatever the product code says).

Unless I need a fan translation or a specific bit of software to translate the game as easily as most of the text edit stuff used for NES and SNES games, then I'm at a blockade. And HxD or any other hex editor seems far from cryptic when translating Asian languages to English since I'm getting nothing but ASCII or letters with Spanish/German/Portuguese accents marks in the hex editors. Edit++ just has black boxes that may as well be censored bars.

Sorry for the TL;DR. But whats my options on translations? Force English text in games that bare no English, request a fan translation, hack it to make dialogue readable, or give up and wait until one comes my way?

Makes me wish the same person(jjjewel) who translated the Japanese DS version(the first Tomodachi game from 2009) in English would get on this for the 3DS. And yes, both games are Tomodachi Life(probably the best Mii-based game for the system, and amusing).

Korean and Japanese versions need English text translations.
