in case anyone was wondering what the hell i meant by remastering things, basically, this:

the game stores the player portraits as 128 color images (dont even ask me why.....) which did a lot of damage to not only their transparency, but also colors themselves.
i've been systematically undoing such damages by reimporting data from the ps2 version and redoing where required.

well then, Tom mailed me earlier yesterday and as of today he picked up on working on the script (i know, it's march instead of january, happens :P) which means that things are going places.

if everything goes according to keikaku* my 18-year long wait to finally get to play this forgotten gem of gaming history is slowly crawling towards it's bitter end. Updates as i see fit to write lol


* translator note: keikaku means plan

nope. But seeing the retardedly large pile of work this game is, i wouldn't wait for it for while now.
I've waited for 18 years, so a year or 2 wont kill me now i guess, but im kinda hoping it doesnt take that long anymore. Either way time will tell...

we had some issues with the script dumps that have since been resolved. Moving on... nothing to see here (yet.)

Okay, a bit confusing. Wasn't the point of this thread to gauge interest in a game that "Not many people know about?" How can you hope to do that if you won't explain the game? :unsure:

this thread's purpose was initially to interest check if someone would like to see this thing in english, but as has since been stated, the project staff is now complete and simply moving onwards.
if you would read the entire thread you would be aware of this fact.

had no one been interested of translating the texts (which was the reason for the publicity) i would have simply terminated the project and the thread, which now serves purpose of keeping any interested people up to date on it.
im not worried about why someone should or should not play it, i simply hacked it, and once the translation is done, i will share it for anyone to try on themselves. If you dont find what's shown here so far interesting enough to make you bother to google for a gameplay video or something, then it's propably not a game for you to begin with.


but im bored today, so i'll tell you anyway (not that i didnt describe the game in the opening post anyway, but i guess you didnt read it.)

Zill O'll is a very traditional kind of rpg as far as gameplay goes, turn based battles, typical leveling mechanism yadda yadda, what makes this game interesting though is that while it has a linear plot that happens regardless of what you do at certain times (the in-game time advances everytime you move on the world map or sleep at the inn) you can affect the outcome of tons of scenarios on it depending on your interactions with the characters involved in the event.

practically anything you do in the game outside of the "main" events is yours to decide. The game features a guild job system that allows you to build up your fame as an adventurer by completing jobs you can take from the guild houses in towns. the game has some 20++ characters that are possible to get into your party, and the psp version has 48 unique endings depending on who you played with and how high the affection of each character is to you.

for replay value, there's 6 different starting scenarios in the game that define the initial motive of your characters adventure (some are male, some female specific) and the game's newgame+ offers a new scenario that is not available during initial playthrough.

for a person like myself who loves to play rpg's in a way that they clear everything and max the chars and so on and so on, this game is a literal dream come true because it's replay value is practically infinite. (no pun intended.)

nope. there's no other translator and i wont be looking for one either.
Maybe in another 10 years someone will step up to finish it.
