This is great! Now this would be nice if it had a built in installer! Also would it be possible to dump digital titles?
You can use ddd to dump a digital title.
There's also ftpiiu or wup server which can dump the files.

Though, it's done only in extracted file system format, not installable .app files.
You can use NUSPacker to convert to app, but it will be a bad signed ticket.

Question concerning the usage of the homebrew.
Do I need to be in the haxchi cfw (patched signature mode, the hold B thing)?
Also same question, but then for Wupinstaller Y mod.

Depends on what homebrew you would like to run. If you want to run homebrew that:
  • Is installed to your channel as a "channel"
  • Makes changes to your console's NAND
You will need CFW. Most software can run from HBL, which only requires a PPC kernel exploit to run.

Alright, so for just using disc2app, hbl is enough, for makig changes to your NAND ala wup installer y mod, or running homebrew channels, CFW is required, correct?

Thank you ^^, guess I'll be dumping tonight.

You don't need CFW for dumping games, installing them (with wup installer) and running them.

You just need HBL for dumping and installing.

Edit: just for clarification, games dumped from disc have valid ticket, this is why you don't need CFW for running them

Last edited by EyeKey,
I made an homebrew that combines wudump & wud2app by FIX94. So all the credits goes to him.

It dumps just the .app/-h3/.tmd/.cert/.tik files from the disc. It is much faster than full disc dump, because it only reads the necessary parts of the disc. (And reduce the chance to encounter bad sectors in case of scratched discs)

You can choose between SD/USB. (the same as in wudump that it is based on)
It dumps the files to /install/<DISC NAME>/ folder.
If you dump it to the SD it can be installed as is with wupinstaller y mode.

Israeli pride as we say ;) Good job..! :)

Awesome app dude. Any chance of getting a channel install version so we can run it directly from the system menu screen?

So i dumped a game using disc2app but want to delete it instead of installing it. However, when I plug my sd card into my computer I can't delete the contents of the install folder because the media is write-protected.

Thanks for this tool. Can you enable the issue tracker on github so people can make suggestions there?

So I used disc2app to rip my games and wup installed them but now when I try to play the games, the system says there's extra update data and won't load. I deleted the update data and it still says I should delete things in my USB.

I had a similar problem where I had legitimate updates, DLC, and saves stored on the built in storage, but had used WUP Installer to put the game on USB. Turns out they need to be on the same storage, so I used WUP installer to install the game onto built in storage, then System Settings to move it to USB.

I gotcha. I managed to get the dlc straight from Nintendo. I just went to the eshop and downloaded all the updates to the system again. My saves were gone but I had all the DLC unlocked at least.

Just wanted to say thank you for this super-useful combination of the previous utilities. I've now dumped all 34 of my Wii U discs and am installing them on an external drive as I write this. I'll now (finally) be at the same place I was with my Wii - all my games available on-demand without having to get off my butt to change a disc. Sweet!!

It would be cool if the stickied guide to installing games to USB (in the Hacking & Backup Loader section) was updated to include a reference to disc2app.

Also, it's awesome that you don't even have to have a permanently hacked Wii U to do all this.

I can't get this to work. Running cfw and I inserted super Mario maker and... nothing. Says I inserted the disc and nothing happens.
