Alrighty then. I think I see what you were talking about now. Unless your internet connection is faster than 150Mbps you shouldn't really see any difference between wireless and wired on your switch while downloading digital games. And the fact that your wired is so much slower than your wireless I can only assume that you are using a 100Mbit adapter instead of a 1Gbit adapter or you have much more serious issues which are outside the scope of these forums.
Thats the thing right, it's getting 11/11 on wired and 40/11 on wireless. The Wii U which I initially bought the adapter for has no issues with 15/3 on speedof me. And the same adapter on my PC does 75+/15. My internet package is 100/15. I just want it to be consistent so I dont gotta pick it up out of the dock to use the eshop. On that very same note, dropped packets also effect downloads and can slow them down, or cause corrupt downloads.

I want consistency as I do with all my consoles.

I think i been a idiot. :P

I found a tutorial on youtube of ways to increase ps4 internet connections and i just used that tutorial.
  • Create static ip address
  • Change Primary DNS to 8.8.8.8
  • Change Secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4
  • Change MTU to 1473
Not that i can prove there is a difference but i just been using it ever since. Although i been having a consistent 50MBPS download and 15MBPS upload on my switch, no issues since day one. Even when automatic is been no problem, as long as i have AC wifi. (Really wish i had a AC ps4 now)

I don't think you understand what MTU is. Most ISP routers use 1500MTU, it is only advisable to change the MTU when on a private network where ALL of the devices attached have been changed to the new MTU, and it's usually INCREASED beyond 1500MTU due to extra encapsulation.

You are doing yourself more harm than good. The person who wrote that tutorial must also not understand MTU.

By decreasing the MTU without exactly matching the MTU set by the PS4 servers (which is undoubtedly 1500MTU) you are actually INCREASING frame fragmentation and the computations your router needs to do to deal with it.

If you do notice any increase in performance it was undoubtedly due to changing the DNS setting from your ISP DNS to Googles DNS. ISP DNS is usually quite twitchy and half the time it malfunctions which on the user's end seems like a slow connection.

Have you tried using a different ethernet cable? Maybe the one off your PC?

How do i know the mtu of my router? I checked all of the settings and never found any information on it.

It will either be in the advanced setup setting or your router is a very basic consumer version not designed to let you change such setting therefore it will be default 1500MTU.

If you feel adventurous you can usually flash a custom firmware of advanced tomato or ddwrt.

Sure have. The initial cable was the same one that my Wii U uses just fine. So yea, either they gimped the drivers for usb lan or they have poor unoptimized ones. But since they are actually selling a first party adapter again, it leads me to believe this is done on purpose.

Looks like you can only set it for pppoe which you probably don't use. It is most likely set by your ISP DHCP to the default 1500MTU.

Well i dunno, i didn't use that. I only had used the wizard to assist in setup then i just went from there. Wasn't much to change. It was working then. Anyway i just leave it on automatic from now on. It would be less for me to worry about. Weather or not the DNS 8,8,8,8 helps with boost or not, is not worst than before so i won't bother with it either.

The only other thing i attemped to do was change the wifi radio signal and do some port forwarding for a few consoles or whatever. I doubted i needed that since i have UPNP and nat type is always 2

Using any DNS other than your ISP is a good idea unless you are worried about big brother, in that case you would want to route your DNS through ONION.

UPNP is dangerous is regards to hackers. I love doing pen-tests and finding a bunch of UPNP ports open haha!

You really don't want to change your MTU. I would also suggest you change any devices you may have modified back to the default 1500MTU. The only time I would suggest someone like you increase your frame size would be if you are constantly transferring large files from one pc to another or running several servers on a virtual lan but you would need separate lan adapters for that.

Mines even worse than my gpd xp and thats saying something.

You really can't judge it from the bars, 2 bars on the Switch would actually be a pretty good connection if you are more than 5 or 10 feet away from the router depending on where it is situated.

You need a router that is capable of telling you exactly what is going on so you can see each individual devices signal strength.

That is only possible with custom firmware or very expensive enterprise routers.

I have a very good internet security already, and i was told that is useful for having a more open nat type to allow being able to play online. Although with the port forwarding is serves the same purpose, either used for gaming or like creating media servers, which some consoles like ps3 and ps4 can access.

Anyway i got everything working fine, i haven't had problems with anything aside from bad connections on playstation consoles, sometime soon I'll have to get a 5G ps4 console. I was gonna anyway when the 4.50 firmware was out and can properly use the boost mode.

Besides that my switch wifi is fine. I downloaded 2 games and took lest than a minutes on both of them. WIIU and 3ds on the other hand are unforgivable so i have no comment.

On that note, my switch gets 40/11 on 20% signal strength. I'm now curious how good it could be if I was up close. But I am also lazy.

Mine has the older 88772 chipset. I see the USB 3.0 with theoretical gigabit is 88179. But still, why does it not perform the same does not change. Even if slowr than the max speeds the wireless can provide I'd still expect it to do what it did on my Wii U, 15/3. And on top of that, it can do 75mbps or greater download on my PC. That to me says their driver specifically gimps this particular chipset then. Buying the better one? for 15 dollars, no biggie. It's just not cool that this usb lan can perform to it's fullest on everything else.

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.

i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
