Confirmed Nintendo Switch is using stock Nvidia Tegra X1, no modifications.

All is confirmed the Nintendo Switch is powered by stock Nvidia Tegra X1, same chipset used in Shield TV. The most surprising is the retention of 4 Cortex A53 processor cores, which have no use in the Nintendo switch as they can't be operated at the same time when Cortex A57 cores are running due to the ARM big.little configuration setup.

After subsequent processing of the GPU from the Nintendo Switch, we have determined that the processor is the Nvidia Tegra T210. The T210 CPU features 4 Cortex A57 and 4 Cortex A53 processor cores and the GPU is a GM20B Maxell core.

http://techinsights.com/about-techinsights/overview/blog/nintendo-switch-teardown/

Nvidia Tegra X1 features
  • 8 core CPU (4 x Cortex A57 and 4 x Cortex A53)
  • GPU is a GM20B Maxell core

A comparison to Shield TV. Switch specs on the left, and Shield TV on the right. The clock speeds are reported from Eurogamer, which are very much true.

  • RAM: 4GB vs 3GB
  • CPU: 1Ghz vs. 2Ghz
  • GPU: 3 modes:307.2Mhz/384Mhz/768Mhz vs 1Ghz

Shield TV is clocked higher initially in both CPU and GPU, but don't forget Shield TV can't keep these clock speeds up for long, it throttles down to the exact switch's dock clockspeeds. Which further supports a stock X1.

The Wii is indeed a powered-up GC, but Wii U has almost nothing to do with the Wii. Wii U is to Wii what 3DS is too DS. There is sure an old CPU built-in to have the backwards compatibility, but that's all. That's why Dolphin will never emulate the Wii U.
the wiiu is just a powered-up wii as well, same processor with all the same architecture and instruction set, boosted by 50% to have a higher clock rate; it DOES however have 2 gpus, one for GX2 (wiiu games) and one for GX (wii and gamecube games).

So know that we know the exact architecture of the processor it will be a really cool thing for the hacking scene :P
eh... no, it won't.
What makes "homebrew" written for the NES and SNES cool and worthwhile is that the raw system hardware itself is unique, while the Switch is... basically just another tablet (don't let the joycons fool you into thinking otherwise.)

You really didn't see Nintendont running on the Wii U? It uses the Gamecube controller adapter to play Gamecube games just fine, how did you miss that?

The thread was over 1400 pages long.

all i heard was you can put a gamecube disc in a wii and it plays ive done it :)

You've heard wrong I'm afraid, you dump the ISOs to a hard drive and play them. Wii U can't read Gamecube discs.

Just when I thought they learned a lesson with underpowered hardware.
BRAVO NINTENDO BRA-VO

Well, going with more power helped with the PS Vita battle against the 3DS, right?

There isn't a single console maker who has learned that lesson, but they also don't want to charge $700+ for modern hardware. I posted a video in this same thread showing a GTX 680 outclassing PS4. A fucking GTX 680. C'est la vie.

The cirrent standard on console is 900p. Zelda is in 900p, the other games in 1080p. And Zelda has framedrops BECAUSE IT'S A PORT. Not because lack of power.
it struggles to run 900p. and literally what games run 900p these days? only the most un-optimized games, most games on Xbox one and PS4 are running 1080p. And Zelda runs 720p smoother than 900p. Can't maintain 30fps at all, 720p or not. the X1 was simply made to only run 720p, not 900p. That is why it struggles so hard.

It has framedrops because of sheer underpower. the fact that it's running on ancient hardware. The performance takes a hit when wifi is on, like wtf.

That's a marketing issue, really. In Japan (least in 2016) the Vita was one of the best selling gaming systems, outdoing the 3DS easily. Even now approximately 7-8 new games get released every week for it.

For the millionth time, 720p is native for BotW. Fast RMX runs on Switch at 1080p60, just like most native Switch Nintendo games will. And obviously the wifi thing is a bug, nothing permanent.

But it proved that power isn't everything.
DS vs PSP
3DS vs Vita
PS2 vs Xbox

In those battles, the weaker hardware always won because of the software, not the specs.

Leave Vita alone. Its a great console, but the marketing and game lineup was SHIT.
Proof that hardware doesn't save a console if the library and marketing are shit

There you go! Exactly the same problem with all the failed systems. Hardware haven't mattered in terms of power. And yes, the Vita is a wonderful little device, especially after you can overclock it.

More or less shows the Vita was an afterthought honestly. Everyone already has a 3DS, why buy another.

I kid.. I kid

Yup. Only change is a 20-25 percent boost in performance and slightly less energy consumption. And if it is the one used in the switch, their still may be some hope. I saw someone else claiming they did in fact drop the big/little config in the 2017 version. I am digging and looking for proof however. The person on the site has very few post. I would link but the site also contains warez
The article is from 2016, which the new chip production was still underway. Also 20 to 25 percent performace boost is already enough For x1 to surpass x2 in gaming, and matches the improvement from 20nm to 16nm as opposed to pc line from 28nm to 16nm.

A console is only as good as its library, no amount of FXAA, MSAA, 5 GHz, 32 GB RAM, etc is going to salvage it.

I agree, but I reckon the higher resolution resulting framedrops in Zelda and likely more ambitious games in the future for Switch is due to the starving memory bandwidth, 25GB. Very poor.

Pretty sure some people already knew it was underpowered since it was revealed... Not that I'm complaining since I'm just an ignorant person who just wants to play games for fun and entertainment.

Yeah it's almost as if consoles were designed to play games or something, crazy right?
