I have a New 3DS XL which was on 9.2 EUR.

I followed the guide to the letter and everything was going great up to the nand backup. Instead of just pressing A I thought I had to highlight it by pressing down and it skipped the Nand backup.

I carried on with the guide until I reached the part about restoring Nand, obviously don't have the backup so now I'm stuck :(

I can still boot in to hourglass etc. I've also tried to boot in to recovery menu but this brings up godmode.

Is there anything I can do to start again or recover without a nand backup?

I'm dumb I know!

Thanks

You have to follow the 9.2.0 ctrtransfer guide since you don't have a usable NAND backup. Step 3 of the ctrtransfer section of the 2.1.0 ctrtransfer guide says to just press A to make the NAND backup. This is why we read things and not assume and skip around.

Just know that because you don't have that NAND backup, you've lost your games and save files.

Thanks, yeah I know I was stupid but I didn't press B to skip honest!

I have already tried the transfer you mentioned including all the health and safety steps but when it verifies it tells me something along the lines of not for your 3DS

My 3DS was new so nothing on it at all.

What are you talking about? Health and Safety steps come wayyyyyy later. Follow 9.2 ctr transfer to flash a pre-made 9.2 image onto your console. Make sure you have the right file.

Also you should've read the warnings in 3ds.guide before attempting to do anything that is not stated in the guide. How did you miss the part where it says "Updating on 2.1 with a N3DS WILL BRICK your system"? Recovery mode = Updating your system. Be glad you didn't get into recovery mode.

I completely missed "booting in to recovery will brick your system" doh! Very lucky i couldn't get it to do it.

The health and safety bit comes right after ctrtransfer, so I didn't need to do this?

Because I did this health and safety thing is there anything I need to do to reverse it?

No I mean I'm just confused why you're talking about H&S when you're supposed to flash 9.2 image onto the console, then continue with the guide. H&S doesn't come after 9.2, it comes after you've setup Luma, and updated your system to 11.3.

This is why I don't understand your problem where you state something about "not for your console". At what part does that come on? What part are you even on? What FW are you on?

your stf's already gone forever, so just skip the part about restoring the backup and continue. If you have done the 9.2 cvtr transfer, you can go on. just skip the step of restoring the backup.

since you are not on 2.1 anymore (since you did 9.2 transfer) the warnings don't apply. Your saves and bought tickets are gone but as long as the 9.2 ctr transfer is done, you are ok other than that. boot 9.2 and update to 11.3, then do the health and safety bit.

I followed the guide up to "Section II - Ctrtransfer" where I pressed down because stupidly I thought I had to highlight the option to backup SysNAND instead of just pressing "A" I realised my mistake straight away but thought I should carry on without a backup in case I bricked the 3DS.

I then carried on with the rest of the guide without issue until I reached "Section IV - Restoring the system" and this is where I needed the SysNAND backup that I didn't have :(

I then followed 9.2.0 ctrtransfer guide but again stupidly instead of just switching back to the 3DS.Guide I carried on to the next two sections "Section V - Injecting FBI" and "Section VI - Finalizing Setup" so basically I panicked and got the main guide mixed up with troubleshooting!

My 3DS still powers up but displays "failed to mount ctrnand" and press any key to power off.

How can I sort this mess out?

Thanks

Thanks :) I still have hourglass so I'll retry the 9.2 transfer

My New 3DS XL is new and this is the first use it's had by me so no games or saves to lose.

Is the anything I should remove from the memory card due to me doing the FBI inject and Health and safety?

no, the health and safety inject is to let you install FBI to the sdcard (ad a few other things that you already have because you followed the guide), and is reverted after.

if hourglass9 doesn't ctrtransfer, you may need godmode9 or decrypt9WIP instead. and apparently you already have godmode9.

Ctrtransfer done :) and things are going great up til this point -

Section VI - Finalizing setup

  1. 13. Launch the Homebrew Launcher from the home menu

At this point it just displays "The homemenu robin ready" and bottom screen flashes a couple of colours and stay on yellow and have to power off to reboot.

    Any ideas?

If you have Clock+L2 set up in Luma3DS, Homebrew Launcher WILL NOT launch.
Updating to the latest Luma3DS nightly fixes this issue.

Turn off your 3DS, press the POWER button and hold the SELECT button and turn off the New 3DS CPU option to off then launch Homebrew.
After you're done make sure you turn it back to ''Clock+L2''

well if you already did the ctrtransfer, you don't need godmode9 or decrypt9WIP.

yeah, disable the overclock in luma, and homebrew launcher should work. update both to the latest and you should be able to turn it back on again.

also suggest re-extracting the homebrew starter kit to the sdcard again just to be sure everything is there.

Any other ideas?

Are you using the Homebrew Launcher CIA? If you are, then make sure to update it to v1.3 if you haven't already.

did you re-extract the starter kit, and follow the guide after the 9.2 ctrtransfer again exactly?

Yes I did, really took my time and was very careful this time!

Bingo!

Just copied over the V1.3 CIA and it works

Thanks so much :)
