After revisiting Skyrim since the switch announcement, I had dig into the lore a lot more, and find more than interesting parallel.
The first to talk about is magic, which besides the normal spells that uses magika (which are infinitely superior to various other fictions and a lot more showing than real world due to vast military application, magika is a parallel of 'life force' if you may), there is also thu'um (though theorized to be internal projection, it is also possible to be minor reality warping, however it did benefit from various 'spell' perk which makes its nature somewhat uncertain), Sword singing (in TES, conjuration typically means calling other worldly creature while sword singing is a projection of internal essence) and elder magic which give direct manipulation to reality.
Then into the gods. Akatosh, the imperial dragon, is literally the creation of man. In early days of the timeline, a monkey taps into omnipotence to create this god as a separate entity just cause the elves believe in a slightly different god. Both Orcs and Kajihiit (cat man) are elves mutated by spirits. And the last of all, the entire mortal existence was because the imperishable spirit was too high to see past metaphysics, which in elder scrolls is called CHIM which realizes everything is in a dream (notice that unlike our mysticism, this is way past metaphysics, which are ruled by the spirits) but continue to exist out of sheer will, and beyond that evolving past omnipotence to become the creator of new realities that allow bypassing the laws of existing metaphysics, but possibly giving up their own so small pieces of them or die (the only other lore I've seen this is early Taoism in unspecified era, possibly before its religious shift). And the one who propose the concept of CHIM is the father of all vampires and god of domination which is really weird. And the only Aethiest in universe are a group of elves who live underground.

I've read into the mythos a little bit. Are the kahjit really mer? I don't remember reading anything like that.

10/10 would read again, classic Yil post.

According to some skyrim era lore and Kahjiit creation myth, Azura transformed a bunch of Bosmers into Kahjiit, or maybe cat-like wild hunts.
Lorkhan created Mundus cause mortals, unlike the spirits whose existence ties with metaphysics, can see beyond spirituality and into the true fabric of existence, and the dunmers have seen what Lorkhan envisioned, which is kind of what separate them from the original Aldmers. Sadly Auriel gets really pissed and killed him, and Alduin is something else entirely.

Where are you reading all of this anyway?

Imperial library.
And Azurah came to her and said, "Poor Nirni, stop your tears. Azurah makes for you a gift of a new people." Nirni stopped weeping, and Azurah spoke the First Secret to the Moons and they parted and let Azurah pass. And Azurah took some forest people who were torn between man and beast, and she placed them in the best deserts and forests on Nirni. And Azurah in her wisdom made them of many shapes, one for every purpose. And Azurah named them Khajiit and told them her Second Secret and taught them the value of secrets. And Azurah bound the new Khajiit to the Lunar Lattice, as is proper for Nirni's secret defenders. Then Azurah spoke the Third Secret, and the Moons shone down on the marshes and their light became sugar.

But Y'ffer heard the First Secret and snuck in behind Azurah. And Y'ffer could not appreciate secrets, and he told Nirni of Azurah's trick. So Nirni made the deserts hot and the sands biting. And Nirni made the forests wet and filled with poisons. And Nirni thanked Y'ffer and let him change the forest people also. And Y'ffer did not have Azurah's subtle wisdom, so Y'ffer made the forest people Elves always and never beasts. And Y'ffer named them Bosmer. And from that moment they were no longer in the same litter as the Khajiit.

Reading this, it appears that the Bosmer and Khajit were the same race the Khajit race - which contained beasts and elvish individuals.

So it's not that Bosmer became Khajit, but that proto-Khajit became Bosmer and Khajit.

But at one point those were mers, as Bosmer shares heritage with all other mers (so we should say Proto-Bosmer), and Thalmor trying to separate Khajiit from the moon and back to mer since the fourth era Dominion, that is, if they don't want to unmake the world just yet.

A point that you need to consider is that not all of these books are true in elder scrolls canon.

Some myths contradict each other, and this is an example of that.

Other myths say that Bosmer are descended from some proto-elf, but this book states that Bosmer are descended from proto-khajit.
