Wind Waker HD is not emulated, it is ported.
Someone took the code, changed it and compiled it for the Wii U.
During that time someone worked hard to take this gameworld and make it look polished.
Someone integrated Anti-Aliasing and made sure it ran with a consistent framerate.

Now YOU tell me why this process of Quality Control on Wind Waker HD was far to primitive for something so cutting edge as the new Zelda?
I would be curious to find out why that suddenly went out of fashion with you.

it has nothing to do with optimization, the wii u hardware is already being pushed to it's limits
maybe in 15years you'll see botw running on new hardware just as good as ww runs today on the wii u (at solid 30fps with aa and all that jazz)

WWHD is a touched up port of the 15 year old game, the wii u is expected to run it perfectly.

BOTW, is a new game, is huge, and is pushing the limits of the console.

Your WWHD thing is stupid

Can someone upload a gameplay where We can see the frame drops? Some got bad textures and horrible frame drops and the others have awsm textures and no frame drops. It is very interesting

@VinsCool 10 Times more detailed? Have you LOOKED at those textures?
I have seen them, and I did my best to find at least one lowres texture. I couldn't, at all. it's very detailed.
Sure, the world is big, but if it looks a single-color bitmap just a few meters in front of you than you made a game unsuited for the platform you developed it on.
That's celshading for you my boy. You know, a art style? You said you love Wind Waker, you should have known what was coming.
Nintendo tried to emulate the style of other popular RPGs at the moment, but didn't think about wether they could actually make it look good.
Zelda Skyrim edition? I feel the vibe to it, and they did really well. I know a hardcore Skyrim fan who loves BOTW right now.
Someone made the decision that this game looks like without anti-aliasing
How is that a problem? unless you play at 30 centimeters from your 60'' 4KHD TV, you can't even notice much while you are immersed in the gameplay.
not being able to see anything but single-colored bitmaps in the distance
Celshading.
and that 15 - 20fps was more than enough for Kakariko village.
Huge details will affect performances, and that's in everything. They did their best.
No, i don't think this is acceptable.
Graphic whore, as I thought.
If this game wasn't a Zelda-title no one would get their panties up in a twist about mentioning obvious flaws.
Have you even seen critics about shittier open world games?

But it didn't push the limits of the Wii U. That is not the argument.
it went far and above the limits and then they lied about it.
It tried to achieve the impossible and then failed at it, but instead of previewing this honestly to customers they chose to touch up all footage released of the game by increasing draw-distances and using Anti-Aliasing heavily.
They lied. Fair and simple.
My argument only goes to show that the Wii U CAN do these things. It can perform beautifully if a game is well-done.
A game can be HD and have great draw distances with Anti-Aliasing enabled.
Fine, lets not chose Wind Waker. Chose Xenoblades, Chose Mario World, chose anything really.
These games ALL match their previews and trailers perfectly. This game however does not.
That is the whole point i am trying to make and while some people understand that others immediately begin to pee their pants and draw their Zelda-cosplay costumes tightly to their shivering bodies in defense of a company that couldn't care less about them.

Does the game look how it did in the early reveal and trailers? Absolutely not.

Does that mean it looks terrible? Absolutely not.

The Wii U is a severely lacking console in terms of graphical output. It was expected that the game would not look as stunning as it did initially. After all, those builds don't even run off of a Wii U.

Aesthetic is where this game shines. The graphics are okay, and that's perfectly alright, we don't need PC-level graphics from Nintendo, as nice as it would be though. Where I take issue is the horrible performance. This game definitely pushes the Wii U far beyond its capabilities, with horrid frame drops and low framerate. I've come across parts of the game where it seriously runs at 10fps, let alone the villages, which have the choppiness of a 3D PS1 game. It sucks, but I don't think Nintendo could have gotten it to run any better without another lengthy delay.

So it is absolutely understandable if a big company comes in and makes previews and trailers look much better than the finished product? You deem this normal?
Then why watch ANY trailers EVER if that is not going to be what the finished product will look like anyway?
Why not buy DVDs of the trailers and collect those instead?
What does a trailer MEAN if that is not representative of the final product?
Should a company not be held accountable by what it promises before release?
All these marketing materials lead to sales, so if they are purposefully based on a lie then where does this leave the consumer?

Yes. It is normal. Take a look at assassins creed trailers or no mans sky or Tokyo mirage sessions or uncharted 4. They did the exact same thing. Chances are, the working trailer is made with the assets they have at the time. Of course they want to drum up hype, so they showcase the game at its greatest looking in order to get people excited. Then, throughout the development process, cuts are made. It's just a fact of game development. In other cases, yeah, companies do try to fool their consumers by showing something that absolutely won't be the end product. And that's scummy, but their end goal is to sell games, not show a video that makes their title look like a lesser product.

Funny you should mention No Mans Sky.
Wasn't there something about a lawsuit brought against them for... oh, i dont know.
Lying about the finished product? Showing things in trailers that wouldn't be in the final game?
You know... right before they had to close their entire studio because of these "deceptive business practices"?
Just because something happened before, doesn't make it alright.
Plenty of people have murdered before, but if i were to bury someone in a shallow grave and then drive away i would STILL be a criminal.

The lawsuit fell through--the courts decided the charges didn't warrant a case. I'm not saying these things are good, I'm saying they are expected.

Edit: and like I said before, sometimes it's beyond the dev's control. Occasionally, the graphics have to take a hit during development. That's just how it works.

Then you are the definition of "defeatist".
Someone who, when he gets lied to, believes that this behavior is normal. That there is no need to do or say anything, because what is there to be done?
Rather just accept it, take it and then wait for the next disappointment that is sure to follow, because a life of inaction and acceptance leads to nothing but complacency and lethargy.

the framerate is 30 fps. maybe its your HDD. I do noticed drops oddly when you move the camera with the right analog on normal mode. I set it to very fast & i usually center it. The gfx are what they are but yes, no AA on the wii u version.

this is completely unrelated, no mans sky's team overpromissed and didn't delivered
while zelda has all the features they've shown us and even more, do you want a refund for your purchase or something?

...what

I'm merely pointing out trends in the industry, and explaining why they happen.

@jerzmob Have you been to Kakariko, yet?

@Chary Just forget it. Go play your game.
Who's the defeatist now ;)

I won't be "playing my game", haha, I've had my fill of Zelda on Wii U, because of the framerate. Mechanically, it's pretty great, nothing mind blowing, but it's fun. You have to look past the visual quirks it you want to enjoy it fully. Like I said before, yeah, Nintendo under-delivered on the graphical aspect, but the gameplay is as expected, and for what's there, it's an okay compromise. I mean, we all did play Ocarina on the N64 at about 20fps, it's not the worst thing in the world, just an annoyance. Were the trailers dishonest deception? I doubt it. The game obviously had a lot of developmental issues, and it's clear Nintendo delayed it many times to get it to run as well as they could get it. Is there an issue in the industry where companies deceive consumers with dishonest intentions, and does that need to be recitified? Certainly. Is BOTW one of those issues where we should raise our pitchforks at? Probably not.
