So I'm going to update to 11.3, and have made a sysNAND backup just in case. Before continuing, do I need to do anything with my CFW apps (homebrew, FBU, Luna etc) in terms of updating or whatever? (If so a quick step by step would be nice as I'm clueless!)

Or can I go ahead and update with no worries about my apps?

What is your current setting? (Exploit + CFW)
I assume you using Luma3DS since you said a word "luna".

Arm9 + luma3ds, basically followed the 3ds.guide website step by step :)
If you consider contiune useing homebrew launcher cia, you have to update it to lastest version.
And right now, homebrew launcher cia having a problem with Luma3DS CPU clock, you need to disable it before running homebrew launcher cia.

Excpet homebrew launcher cia, everything is going to be find. You can update your system.

Aside from a few games featuring stuttering.

Not true. Not if you update to the latest version of the Homebrew Launcher CIA and the latest payload from smealum. It runs find with the Clock+L2 setting, though I haven't tried Clock just by itself (but really, if you're on a New 3DS, you typically should use Clock+L2 anyway).

The latest hourly fixes a lot of the stuttering issues I have, unless trying to play a n3ds game on my o3ds lol
commit: 5f8a612

OP just make sure you remember to update HBL cia, assuming you're on Luma, you should be good to go as long as you're on v6.6 or one of the hourly's

I just test it myself this morning (GMT+9) with Clock+L2 setting enable, Homebrew Launcher won't load.

I don't know what to suggest but I literally just loaded it right now on 11.3 with Clock+L2 enabled and it works fine. I haven't heard of anyone else with that problem either. I'm guessing it's something to do with your own setup, frankly.

Please don't assume that just because you have a problem, everyone has it. That's how misinformation is spread.

Then what is this?
I read on the guide that HBL doesn't work if you have the Clock option enabled on Luma3DS. Do you? Also you need to be connected to your Wi-Fi as it downloads payloads thru there.

Don't be so fast.....it IS a problem i run into two times with two different n3ds. HB Launcher didnt work with a9lh, luma 6.6 hb launcher cia 1.3. Afters disabling the clock setting, it worked.

I've tried disabling clock and trying the clock+L2 setting with no luck, (not too bothered really but would be cool to have it working ). Is there a link to an updated cia for homebrew I need to install or anything?

Did you make sure you updated the CIA? Use Homewbr3w, the homebrew browser, to do it (https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-homebr3w-simple-homebrew-browser-and-installer.434105/).

I checked my Luma settings, I'm on 11.3, all my homebrew is up-to-date, and the Homebrew Launcher loads perfectly fine for me.
Since I have no idea about what you have installed or deleted, there could be a number of other potential problems.

It's true that the guide says Clock+L2 breaks HBL support on 11.3, but HBL was updated just over a week ago with 11.3 compatibility. The latest hourly build of Luma will apparently fix it, so that's probably what you've missed. I saw recommendations to update to the latest hourly when 11.3 came out, but I thought that was a given considering how Luma hasn't had a stable channel update for a month or two.

See above (and below). If it works perfectly fine for me, there's obviously a solution that you've overlooked, yes?

Install this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-homebr3w-simple-homebrew-browser-and-installer.434105/
Then use that to update the Homebrew Launcher, and make sure you grab the latest hourly build via Luma Updater.

OK, I found a problem.
I'm using Lastest Stable Luma3DS (6.6), while you using latest hourly.

So, I still think this is problem cause most people without a hack knowlege shouldn't use latest hourly though.

Why? As I said, Luma hasn't had a stable update in a while. If you want proper 11.3 support, you should update to the latest hourly. It's perfectly safe and fine, and completely reversible if necessary. You're fear mongering against updating for compatibility just because you don't think it's a good idea.
Normally, I'd say stick to stable releases, but if you're using Luma on 11.3, you should update to the latest hourly build of Luma. That doesn't mean you have to keep installing the latest hourly from then on (because you don't have to, and it's probably a waste of time and effort), but if you do it once, it's fine. It makes a backup of the stable release anyway, in case anything goes wrong.

I can update to lastest since I know what I should do. What I mean is normal people shouldn't do it.
Because something in the testing state need to be test a lot until we can make sure that "it's really doesn't have a problem".
This is the basic knowlege of developing an application or technology related.

You claim that it is safe. but, if someone without that knowlege using the lastest hourly and face the problem resulting in unrecovry brick,
Can you be held responsible for that?

Define "normal" people. Luma Updater straight-up tells you when you update how to recover from problems that may arise from an update. You don't need to lecture me on the general rules of under-development software - I think it's pretty obvious that I know these things.

As far as I know, you cannot get an unrecoverable brick from just updating Luma. I could be wrong, but the point is that there is a backup in place, people should keep regular NAND backups anyway, there are already a slew of other options they have for "accidentally" bricking their systems - if this is too much for someone to handle, they shouldn't have their 3DS in the first place. If you can't read and/or do something stupid because you're playing with fire, that is your own fault.

As for your question, obviously I cannot be held responsible for such a thing.

For the record, not all software that is in development should be avoided. Just because it isn't a stable release does not mean it is going to destroy your system.

As far as I'm concerned, if you manage to brick your 3DS these days beyond the point of recovery, you are an imbecile who shouldn't be allowed near a computer to begin with.
