Over the weekend, SQUARE ENIX and Disney & Pixar Games shared the release window for the highly anticipated action-RPG Kingdom Hearts IV. A new trailer also accompanied the announcement, revealing the new in-game world inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Coco.

KINGDOM HEARTS IV follows protagonist Sora and some familiar characters as they journey though the mysterious city of Quadratum, where dark creatures known as the Heartless are causing havoc. In the next chapter of the beloved series, Sora will once again journey to various worlds inspired by Disney and Pixar, where new figures cross his path and new powers awaken.

In addition to these reveals, it was announced that 'Kingdom Hearts' (working title), an original anime series for Disney Channel and Disney+, is in development in collaboration with Tetsuya Nomura and the creative team at SQUARE ENIX.

Kingdom Hearts IV will release in late 2027. It will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, XBOX Series X|S and PC and is available to wish list now.

in germany they used to have german voice audio - i just hope 4 will have it too - but i doubt it as the new re releases of 1 and 2 didnt have it either (let alone 3).
It's possible they'll do a new German dub for KH4, but if they didn't for KH3 then don't get your hopes up.

I really don't like this Sora design. It's understandable in the Verum Rex world, but once Sora gets into the Disney worlds it doesn't fit.
What makes you think it'll be the same in the Disney worlds? If the trailer is any indication, he fits in pretty well in the Land of the Dead.

Not to be confused with the Underworld where the characters look similar to how they looked in KH3.

I feel like plenty of replies have said what I'm already thinking.

I haven't played Kingdom Hearts 3, but I hear it doesn't cinch up the story in the least. I still feel like the second game ends in a fairly satisfactory way.

I remember that I actually played through Kingdom Hearts II somewhat fast just to see if Sora got his friends back. Though I was fully expecting Sora to be lost even deeper in the lore (Especially when Riku and Sora were stranded on that beach.), I was surprised by the direction Square-Enix chose for the finale.

I'm not sure how I'd feel about pursuing later games, if we're merely chipping away at J. J. Abrams-style mystery boxing.

Since 2002, there's been a KH-related release every two years or so. The three-year wait for KH2 wasn't so bad, but the 14 year wait for KH3 was a bit much. I'd say 8 years for the fourth game is still up there. At least I have fond memories of the PS2 era heyday of the series. KH fever was an interesting thing, since it wasn't as overt as GTA's popularity.

I've said this before, but I played through Birth by Sleep and got KH burnout. Consequently, the side games look like homework, similar to how Marvel fans describe the TV shows. I hear Dream Drop Distance is decent, but I still can't bring myself to give it a try.

TL;DR: Though I'm rooting for KH fans, I probably won't take the Kingdom Hearts IV journey, either.

It doesn't, but that's more of Nomura adding a crap ton of lore through side games, and now a bunch of that is suddenly important.

The story is so convoluted it's like it's written by a kid who just keeps trying to fill the pages of their notebook.

III could've been something completely different like what IV is, and if it were then DDD wouldn't need to exist. Could've had anything but an army of Xenahorts as an enemy.

Could've brought back Terra and Ventus with the Power of Waking to fight some other villain instead of just recycling characters.

It's funny, I think of the original game and how a big part of the hook was Sora's story.

We've all had at least one friend go away, hurt us, etc., and that gave the story emotional weight. How Sora and Riku carried on throughout the story was interesting, and seeing Disney worlds getting corrupted made it all surreal. (Thinking about it, I don't recall a character arc for Kairi.)

I can tell I've missed a ton by stopping at Birth by Sleep. I know there's the whole keyblade war, and I never understood how the bald dude in BbS was related to the other baddies. I heard that DDD incorporates time travel, but I don't know what that does to the storyline. I guess it's good that Square-Enix keeps packing every game into a single compilation, but I don't know when I'll have the opportunity to jump back in.

The funny thing is that this storytelling strategy has been working for Square-Enix and Tetsuya Nomura. Kingdom Hearts III sold 6.7 million copies. (Kingdom Hearts II sold 5.2 million, and that doesn't include all the re-releases, which add about 2 million to KH2 alone.)
