True, I was excited about the NES mini with the 30 games it came with.

Yeah, and now I've got 691 games on it! Mind. Blown.

@Cluster If you lived closer to Canada, I'd go out of my way to buy both you and Madmonkey a few cases of beers for all your efforts in this. :grog::grog::grog::grog:

Stages of emotion...
1.) Finally gets my hands on a Famicom Mini with 30 games - Excited to re-live my childhood.
2.) Finds out someone managed to hack it. - Excitement level rises.
3.) Hakchi2 comes out, downloads it and adds up to 60 games. - Happiness beyond belief.
4.) Hakchi2 updates and now over 600+ games can be added. - Dies in orgasmic bliss.

Yep, that about sums it up. XD

Will the new version show the kernel size before flashing? It would be nice to have some indicator of how much you can put in the nes mini, instead of just getting the "kernel too big" error after you've already started.

So im just curious. Whats the chances of getting your console bricked. Because $200 is alot for something that might become broken. I wana do it, but only if i know theres a good success ratio. And if i know how many bricks have been recorded. Just being cautious.

Very unlikely, since you have a back-up of your original kernel (if you followed the instructions properly) which you can flash back again. I've had my unit not start a couple of times after syncing and every time I flash the original kernel back in, it goes back to it's original mode, then I re-do the steps to add the games once again.

This would be the ideal scenario. Essentially being able to play SNES, Genesis/Megadrive, and Game Boy games on the NES Classic as we would with any NES game through the NES Classic's front end. And the ability to utilize save states for those games as we would with the NES Classic's front end. The key is that it is easy and elegant, like a simple folder for each system that, when accessed, would then bring up all the games for that system, with a 'back' button to return to the system folders. This is just an example, and getting there may or may not be technically feasible, but I think it more or less sums up what a lot of people would like to see with respect to multi-emulation on the NES Classic.

This is exactly what i am hoping for !!!

@nesito
Can you check if Kid Dracula works with RetroArch, it probably would but i love to see it in one of your YouTube movies :-)

But that is exactly the idea, RetroArch will be implemented as main emulator, no use for the old one anymore. You should be able to load NES, SNES etc. from the GUI of the NES mini. You can have already shortcuts in the main UI to RetroArch. Just has to be implemented, that's all.

For those of you who want the NES Classic to stay 'NES only' and not use other emulators, why? Sure you can buy a raspberry pi, I have one, and snes games seem to run smoother on the NES classic, some games that stutter and slow down run great at full speed on the classic.
Also, just because YOU don't want to run SNES, Genesis, Gameboy games, doesn't mean that people should stop trying. Human progress is all about TRYING, if you want people to stop trying new things, then we will be back in the dark ages before you know it. Let other people put whatever they want on to the classic, if you only wan't NES games, then only put NES game on there, simple.

As for other issues, I would rather use retroarch for ALL emulation, it runs better than the default emulator, the sound is better, the screen options are better, the compatibility is better. If it really is just a trivial case to swap to using that instead, then I vote do it. I imagine it would be MORE work to have the two emulators running side-by-side and selecting which games run in which emulator based on weather they already work or not. Sounds crazy to me.
Apparently SD cards/USB drives are a possibility. I sure hope so. I have always hated this sort of data transfer, having to re-flash the whole device just to add a single game, losing save states etc. I hope someone can get around to supporting this idea.

Keep coding, keep experimenting, have fun, make the classic better for everyone, not just those who have an odd purist attitude to something that isn't pure to begin with.

RetroArch should be the main emulator regardless, exactly for reasons you mention. For the people who only like to play NES games on their mini, just don't put SNES games on your mini if you don't want to use it, if this gets implemented. The point is that RetroArch is a way more versatile emulator all together

I just want the layout to look better ;-)
Did you pay attention to the fact that he is launching a Genesis game from within the GUI of the Nes Mini without using the interface of RetroArch?

As long as the feature of installing retroarch is selectable/optional, I have really no issues with it being packaged along with the hakchi2 updates, that and I like the look of the current UI. We modify/hack our units to our own desires and needs and I do not have an issue with that. As they say whatever floats your boat. :) Plus owning the Famicom Mini instead of the NESCE, I don't have the option of getting a different controller.

If you have a little time and very little soldering skill, then that option is there.

Not an option for me. ;)

Anyways, to put this whole argument aside whether a person would or wouldn't want to have retroarch installed, maybe either have an option for it's installation in the next update or maybe @Cluster can release one last release (with the folders manager) before retroarch gets implemented. That way the needs/wants of both sides gets catered to. :)

Yes i did but it is not what i meant, it is just what i want but at the moment this is not possible with the normal Hakchi2 tool, i am waiting for that ;-)
