Well I myself do plan to put only NES/Famicom games into my unit, though if the RetroArch can be incorporated in the GUI without having to access the RA menu, I would use it to put in the games with mappers currently not supported by the mini. :)
exactly what I'm hoping for and in my video I say as much, also show crisis force running, so the mapper issue is no longer an issue ;)

Agreed simplicity should stay, improvements are mostly in the background anyway. If you don't want extra roms from other systems, don't add them.

This would be the ideal scenario. Essentially being able to play SNES, Genesis/Megadrive, and Game Boy games on the NES Classic as we would with any NES game through the NES Classic's front end. And the ability to utilize save states for those games as we would with the NES Classic's front end. The key is that it is easy and elegant, like a simple folder for each system that, when accessed, would then bring up all the games for that system, with a 'back' button to return to the system folders. This is just an example, and getting there may or may not be technically feasible, but I think it more or less sums up what a lot of people would like to see with respect to multi-emulation on the NES Classic.

This would be the dream. We have already gotten more from our Mini thanks to Madmonkey and Cluster, and if nothing more happens, I'm fine with that. Having 64 games on it is awesome enough for me.

Folder Manager finished! Need to test it now. There are many changes and work since last version, so I need to test it carefully. You can download source code from GitHub, compile and test it too.

I'm not sure: release it now or spend some more time on modules and retroarch support?

Hopefully 2.12 will be the last of the NES versions without RetroArch. Everything 2.13+ can be RA related. It saves the the first 130 pages of the NESCE (original) emulator's hack's and translations on the forums. Newbie's don't even know what's going on anymore. I'd love to see RetroArch as the main emulator but give us options on what to hide or show (what emulator cores). IMO it'd be cool to see the MiniNES stay a Nintendo machine (NES, SNES, GB) but that's my preference... I'm happy with just adding classic games to my Mini. That's what I originally came here for. Give it some time. Work on the NES for now. It was going great with the folder manager. Keep up the good work @Cluster. Stay focused!

If the Retroarch emulator is better than the one that comes with the Classic and offers better compatibility and performance, then I'm all for that! But I'm sticking to NES games only.

Here's what I'd *hope* for:

- I'd still be able to have my 691 games on the system with Retroarch installed.

- Turn on the classic mini and get the original gui that comes with the system, multiple folders etc. If we have to use the Retroarch gui, so be it.

- Choose a game to play.

- Retroarch kicks in and takes over the emulation of said game.

- When I'm done playing, I quit the game. (restart button, etc)

- System goes back to the original or Retroarch gui and I can choose a different game.

- Rinse and repeat.

If there would be any type of limitation in terms of how many games can be stored on the system while Retroarch is installed, I'd probably not update to the Retroarch version and just use the stock emulator so I can keep my 691 games. If some don't work because of mapper issues etc, that's a trade off I'll take.

The quantity of games on the system is important to me as it's the most convenient.

There is a demo.

Honestly I own the 'original' PC versions. Hah hah... I wonder if someone will add the SCUMMVM to the Mini LOL.... Not needed though, heh heh.

I'm not asking for the 'rom dump' of the bootleg homebrew game.

I was just curious of someone had the rom dump, and made a video of the game running or not running on the system though.

With basically all mappers supported the compatibility is much better. Another thing is that you can compress your roms so there will be much more space available (something NES mini owners should be careful with). I still haven't figured out how to make use of the suspend points from within the NES mini GUI. I am sure someone smart enough will figure it out though.

I guess to me

In the sense that the NES Classic Mini is starting to just turn into a Raspberry Pi with limited storage (prior to I'm sure external USB / Storage devices will exist for it). I think improving on the classic adding the entire library perhaps changing the interface I was OK with. I'm glad the rest of you are happy but I think less is more.

I think more focus should be brought back to the NES side of things as far as improvements / changes are concerned.

The simplicity of the system gave the NES Classic Edition it's charm...

I don't want to plug in a Sega genesis cart into my original NES... no thank you. When I wanna bust home and play sonic it will be on my Sega Genesis.

NESCE NINTENDO Entertainment System Classic Edition.

It is technically possible to play Gameboy Carts through an NES though...

I managed to get 22 genesis roms inside retroarch (35mb total) with 50 nes games (including base 30 games) and it's working flawlessly.
I tried 60 but it doesn't upload the kernel I think.
Thanks again Cluster for this tool and thanks pcm720 for retroarch link.

I was finally able to upload the RetroArch to the NES Classic Edition. JOY! :D

Ugh. I really prefer the graphical interface that comes with the NES Classic where I can see the box art when choosing a game. If I have to scroll down a list of hundreds of games to get the one I want....ugh.

Do you have to load the core each and every single time you want to play a game? Or if I use an NES Core, do I have to load it every time? It doesn't auto load?
