I finally got around to system transferring my old 3ds xl to the hyrule warriors legends new 3ds like a week or so ago(been meaning to do it for nearly a year now), then I've been meaning to hack the old 3ds(keeping the new 3ds unhacked and "legit") but have been putting it off. Seems if there was a championship for procrastinating/being lazy I'd do quite well as I tend to put things off for ages.

And today I find out by chance that Nintendo have released a new update, reading the 3ds.guide on hacking the 3ds using soundhax to install the luma cfw I see you have to first downgrade to 2.1 then upgrade back to the latest(after a number of steps). After you've upgraded to the latest fw(which is 11.3) can you still finish the guide?

P.s. I tried looking but not seen this question asked. Also I'm in the uk so I need to download the "Europe" region files right(for those that require you to choose your 3ds region)?

Yes, you can install A9LH on 11.2 since it supports the 2.1.0ctrtransfer. Just warning you, the ctrtransfer file is around 706MB, and you need BitTorrent or any other torrent client to download it. If you follow 3ds.guide to the letter, you should be good to go! You won't be able to do the DspDump, but you don't need to do it right away and should wait until smea updates the HBL payloads. He may update them at the end of the week.

Thanks for the replies, should I hack my 3ds now or better to wait for the hbl update?

I've downloaded all the files ready for when I come to do it, have split them in different folders in term of the steps(4 folders) in the tutorial(step 1 for the soundhax, step 2 for decrypt9 etc).

For steps 1&2(I.e the soundhax & decrypt9) is it ok to put all the files/folders on to the sd card at the same time, so you can start the hbl go carry on with the fasthax etc? Or do you absolutely have to do the soundhax, remove the sd card to copy across the files for the decrypt9 step?

For the arm9loader step where it says to copy the content of the safea9hlinstaller .7z file to the root of sd card, the extracted safeal9hlinstaller file contains a 3ds folder which you already have on the sd card from the starter zip file.

Well I've followed the guide, I'm on 11.2 not 11.3 as I didn't do the update. Is that alright or did I mess up?

Also do I do the dsp dump in the homebrew launcher? Watched a YouTube video by operationidroid while I was also following the web guide, as I wasn't sure where the sysnand backup was meant to be done.

Currently the 3ds seems to crash and requires a reboot if I put it into sleep(I.e close the lid)
Edit: well it froze the first time, seems to be fine after the reboot.

if you followed the guide you should end up being on the firmware you originally started with, once you have a9lh and you are on 11.2 it is safe to update to 11.3 like you normally would.

Yes I get that, but is it worth updating at the moment?
Also as I said I didn't realise I'd be back at the original fw, thought it stays at 2.1 but I was wrong fortunately.
Also is it save to update luma to the nightly builds or best to wait for full updates?

Oh and if I do decide to hack my n3ds xl, will I loose my bought games(also have a few free full retail games when Nintendo ran buy a 3ds get game free, buy selected games get a free game from a selection).

btw i feel like i should still say this even though it is pretty common knowledge, when you have a 3DS especially a new 3ds xl on firmware 2.1 NEVER CLOSE THE LID and put it into sleep mode or you will brick. i say this because you said you closed the lid and it crashed and im wondering if this happened while you were in 2.1. if so you are lucky to still have it working.

No it happened at the end, after I'd gone into the hbl and exited out without rebooting. Got an error message tho can't remember what it said.

oh okay just making sure, and to answer your other question no you will not lose any of your games if you hack your n3ds. the only thing you will lose is all your dsi ware save files i think.
