Or do I have to remove it first? I preordered the new 3ds xl pikachu edition today. I already have an aqua blue old 3ds and a red old 3ds xl. I mainly use the red one now (until I get the new yellow one). The blue one just sits on my desk collecting dust. They both have arm9loaderhax+luma on them. Since I don't use the blue one anymore I thought I'd trade it to save some money on the new one. But do I have to remove the hack first?

Ummm... probably not a good idea :/ go stock before trading it

I don't think they even check it.
Do your system require an SD to boot? That could be a problem.
At least put the required files on NAND so that it boots without an SD card.

I don't think that is a good idea. If they were to find out is been modified of official use, it most likely wouldn't go well.

If they did check it, and decided to insert a sd card boot it up and greeted with luma configuration, then they know is been modified and probably reject it. Someone here posted a blog about nintendo doing such a thing and they rejected repair service for them. So no, please don't try and do this. :teach:

I recommend removing all related hacks, if it wasn't checked first, other people who will buy that might mess up the system so easily. My big brother is gonna sell a used 3DS and I will restore original NAND that has no A9LH in it.

'Oh yeah we take 3DS XL systems, let me check the offer for pro members. $25.00 store credit. Oh, you want cash and it has A9LH? -$5.00.'
You might be better off selling both 3DS' here or on ebay. Craigslist is an option.

Craigslist? Maybe, eBay? Sure, I've seen people selling their units with A9LH on eBay for a hella buck, if you don't care for morals and ethics that is..

Kind of like what H1B1Esquire said, if you remove the hacks it just becomes a normal 3DS again and sell it at normal 3DS prices.. But to some people a hacked version is worth more because 1: it is already hacked and 2: they already know it isn't on some firmware that can't be hacked..
Sell it on some where where you can advertise that it is a 3DS with modified firmware.. And yeah selling it to game stores is always a rip-off for the seller.. After you leave the store with your paltry sum of cash, you are walking away thinking "I know they are going to turn around and sell it to some one else for like double the price."

They probably don't care so long as it boots and operates correctly. They've restocked Cubic Ninja and sell powersaves so they couldn't be completely against homebrew.

It is too bad luma doesn't have a feature that automatically bricks your 3DS after a certain date.. You could sell it to gamestop and they would give you measely $40 for it or some thing, but you secretly have 3DS set to brick its self 1 day later.. You could laugh at stupid gamestop all the way to the bank..

This is also the same company that got Xenoblade Chronicles and purposely understocked, then overcharged. They did the same thing to exclusive Amiibo.
Gamestop is just out to make money, but at least you can be a thorn in their side by keeping the cases to your games and reselling them to people who want to look legit on youtube for having 9001 games.

Hmm. Well it doesn't need the SD card to boot. Unfortunately I don't think I have a backup of the original stock firmware. I'd have to check my computer.

@Bryon15

Well, apparently, Gamestop will give you $100.00-$80.00 SC/C (Pro member) today.

I guess it's not too bad, but....as long as you feel comfortable. I'd definitely not help G$ make more money off my soul than needed. If you do sell it to them, make sure they don't get an SDcard, although, they want a stylus and I think you need a charger, as well.

If there is no SD card in it they will system reformat it. If this does not remove OTP then you could make someone very happy granted it is undetectable. But people would probably pay more on eBay for a modded 3DS.

I normally never suggest gaining a profit from hacked systems, but if you don't want to remove A9LH, just sell it on eBay. People will pay a lot more for a hacked system than gamestop will give you for it unhacked

Not sure if that really applies anymore as all FW's are hackable now. I doubt a hacked 3DS is worth of as much as it was before when anyone can hack any 3DS. Of course users that don't know or are too scared to hack will still be interested ..
