Hacking Just did the al9h 11.2 hack, question about new SD card

I did the al9h exploit last night to great success, only to realize I need a bigger SD.
I bought a new 128gb sandisk card, formatted to fat32, then copied all contents of my previous SD card to the new one. But when I plug it in, says its not detected? What could the issue be?

What is the precise error that you get? It could be due to a number of things. Have you checked your new SD for errors? Are you sure that you formatted it to FAT32? Did you format it with a cluster size of 32 or 64K? Have you checked that it's MBR, not GPT?

Thanks for the reply, I just need a few minutes to copy over my stuff then I'll see what went wrong and update. Perhaps minitool didn't automatically use the right clusters?

I used MiniTool Partition Wizard Free Edition for my 64 GB microSD, and I selected 32K as the cluster size manually. Be sure to check your card with H2testw.

So far seems like I had the partition set to Logical and not Primary, and clusters set to default, whichever that is. I changed it to primary and 32k. Then when I inserted it I was able to recognize it. Now I must copy over the old SD content, but I assume it'll be no issue

Glad to hear everything worked out. Yeah, setting the partition to primary is a pretty common issue people make when using Minitool, it doesn't help that a lot of formatting-SD-for-3DS instructions don't specify that.

Yep it also doesn't help when the official 3DS page says all SDXC cards don't even work or only 32gb max ! haha thanks~

I literally copied all the contents of the old SD to the new, but when I plug it in and turn it on, it looks like a regular 3DS without an SD card in it, despite no longer giving me issues. Do I need to do something to enable the hack that goes beyond copying the files over?

Could you show me what the root of your SD card looks like? This isn't about 'enabling' the hack, it sounds like your Nintendo 3DS folder wasn't copied over. You didn't format your console or anything like that, did you? Are you sure you backed up your Nintendo 3DS folder?

Is the 3ds recognising it, in data management etc, is it not just that your themes have reset?

Did you use the 3ds with the sd card before copying over, if you look in the nintendo_3ds folder are there now 2 subfolders'?

Data Management says there are 773,232 blocks available.
I did notice on my first SD card, there are a bunch of random files with weird symbols as the name and file type, but Windows won't let me transfer them

You have some weird files on your root. Could you tell me the size of the numbered folder and the contents of the folder (also numbered) within it?

That's not important. Does Data Management show any titles?

For the upgraded SD card, Data Managment says no titles are installed, although their should be quite a bit including ones bought from eshop.
Idk what some of the weird-named files are. There are more like that on the old SD card. The size of the numbered folder is 7.75gb, and has 1 folder inside it.
Strangely, the upgraded SD card has 2 folders inside the numbers folder

Sorry double post weirdness.
Xiphiidae may have some better advice but I would merge your old numbered folder with your new numbered folder inside nintendo_3ds (check they have similar content structure) this will keep your saves, then redownload any digitial titles you previously had to reclaim any lost space.

Finally I would backup all the essential files on your sd card and format it

This is your old folder and a new one created before you transfered over, merge the 2 into the new one, you will have to redownload content even though it's still on the SD your 3ds won't see it.
This is because the 3ds created a new folder when you first used it and is now looking there.

looks like you've had some corruption of some sort going on. not really much you can do, if your old SD still works, boot with it and try to backup your save files then start over with the new SD card freshly formatted and empty, all you need to do is addthe luma arm9loaderhax.bin to the root. redownload all your homebrew and stuff too. you can't trust the old SD card anymore so I wouldn't copy anything directly from it only used fresh downloads.

edit: also if it's not seeing the titles on the new SD card because it's using a "new" 3ds folder... could it be he was actually using emunand on the old sdcard? and since he only copied the files and not the emunand partition he's now booting sysnand? that would explain them not showing up.

If your 3DS has created another folder within Nintendo 3DS, it means that you've either: formatted the console, are using a different console, or did not restore your NAND backup after installing A9LH (instead performing a 9.2.0 ctrtransfer or just updating to 11.2). If you restored your NAND backup it should be looking in the same folder, but it's obviously not.

While I agree that they should format their new SD and check for errors, I don't think that there's any reason to think that SD corruption is necessarily playing a role here.

I followed this guide to the letter, so whatever it said to do I did, including a NAND backup and whatnot.
The old SD works perfectly fine, but I want to just copy it over to a new one, why I have 2 new folders in the numbered folder is beyond me.. maybe because I:
1) Formatted the new SD card to Fat32 properly
2) Then put in 3DS, and 3DS did its thing
3) Then put in PC and copied over all folders from the old one?

No, you can copy the contents of an old SD to a new one and will work completely fine without having to do anything extra (I have done this several times myself).

Are you saying that if you put in the old SD you can see all of your games, etc.?

Yep, just put the old SD card (its a measly 16gb) in my New 3DS XL (the one I did the a9hl thing). It works fine. All my games, my themes, etc show up. FBI, you name it.
