Just a quick update on making a channel that doesn't crash:
1) You will obviously have to remap the Home button to another one, although maybe not, I'm trying some things
2) I have an alternate method, but it would be a main launcher that launches each core from a menu, basically the same thing as HBL, but it can actually load the cores from the /vol/content folder and not the SD card.

So do you want me to pursue the one core channels, or a main channel to launch each individually, but you don't need the cores on the SD card? Any feedback on this? Also, once I make any channel, I may need help from people that are good with graphics to add the splash screens and stuff. Anyone interested, let me know what you think.

Why not both?!
I personally am a fan of keeping a channel per-core, I tend to avoid the main one because it involves finding the cores and making changes to the remaps, while the separate cores are just select ROM->Play.

I would go for the one core channels, but I know some other people will prefer the second method. :P

@brienj
I like both ideas! If I could choose I'd vote for your second idea, the main launcher, because I'd like to have only one RetroArch channel on my System Menu.
But if you make seperate channels that'll be great as well :)

Since latest RA nightly check for the recomended core before open a game, wouldn't it be possible just launch an universal .elf that select the right core automatically after choosing a game? I mean instead booting a specific core previously.

Pretty sure it's not that simple

Yeah, I like it too, but the thing is that it's just basically HBL, but loads the cores from your channel folder, instead of the SD card. You'd still need an SD card to load your ROMs though.

Because they need a PPC dynarec (dynamic recompilation) to take advantage of the Wii U's CPU; at the time of writing there is little to no interest in writing dynarec cores. But for the emulators that do work,
the Wii U does an amazing job (esp the Snes).

Ok, so I have a RetroArch Launcher now. It will load the cores from the /vol/content/cores folder, not the SD card. I've got a version working with nestopia and snes9x right now, but just tweaking the UI of it. It's probably too ugly for most people. I'll try to liven it up and make it look nicer, then I'll post a link to a test version for everyone. You can then use FTPiiU Everywhere and upload the cores you want to the /vol/content/cores folder. You'll have to supply a background image for any I haven't added yet. Just give me a few hours to tweak it all.

Well, okay, perhaps complete channels for every core would be better in that case once you figure out the Problems regarding the Home-button?!? Anyway, whats important is to be able to Close installed RetroArch without having to hard reset the WiiU (which Needs to be done with the current installable files in the other thread).
Thanks for your work!

And I don't understand why NOBODY is interested in a PPC dynarec. The WiiU could be capable of so much more like N64, PSX or DS if only anyone tried working on a dynarec solution. I understand that it is plenty of work, but I think it would be more than worth it.
Well I can speak easily as I can't Code anything unfortunately ;) Still, I'd love to see someone trying to Code a dynarec.

I've got the DSI error fixed, the problem is that it won't entirely exit though. It hangs on a black screen. I've got another solution I'm working on that will hopefully be good for everyone.

Oh there's interest for a Dynarec, just not by the right people.

As those who're working on the Wii U port why they're not interested. One possible reason is because people "can already run the N64 on other devices, why should the Wii U be one of them?" To which I reply, because the Wii U has a lot of potential, the Wii U has enough juice to run PSX and N64. That, and PPC is a beeotch to program for, that's a big part of it. I've yet to find anyone interested, and believe me, as much as I'd like to learn PPC, by the time I get good, people will have moved on to Switch homebrew

Therein lies the issue, personally, I don't see the point of including the PCSX core in the Wii U port since it's slow as hell, and like you said, there's no interest in seeing that improved. I'd use WiiSX, but that lacks Gaussian, has ADSR issues, culling graphics glitches, screen tearing, etc.

Well I can't understand that and share your opinion definitely. The WiiU has so much potential hardware-wise - and being able to Play on the Gamepad without TV is something no other console can offer. And it would be great - in case of N64 - to have the possibility to Play ALL Nintendo home console games on one device (NES, SNES, N64 - RetroArch; GC - Nintendont; Wii natively).

Personaly I do not have any other device capable of N64 Emulation, so I can't Play many N64 games atm (only those injectable).

I think even if it arrives in 2 or 3 years there would definitely still be interest in a N64 core at this time. WiiU's won't be replaced by Switch after all, Switch is additionaly as there is no backwards compatibility (unlike with GC-Wii or Wii-WiiU)

Tl:Dr I'd love to see someone working on it ;)
