This happened to the ROM hack I was waiting for Pokemon prism they shut that down as well. Nintendo seems really angry right now after all those people pirated Pokemon sun and moon.

ETTV API doesn't break any copyright laws.
Not directly, but the use of it does. If PT didn't use any APIs to begin with, it'd just be another Torrent client with a built-in video player. However, since it enables users to pirate copyrighted content right out of the gate. It doesn't require one to manually input any sort of URL or to go to a third party site for content to use with it.

And torrent clients were literally just outlawed in Australia. Thing is about Torrent clients though, they had far more uses than just illegally downloading things, there were legit legal uses for torrent clients. You really can't argue that about Freeshop, I mean you can try, but no one that has used Freeshop has used it strictly to redownload titles they legit paid for in the past or demos, and even if they were, there is no reason they couldn't instead just use the official eshop for that. So the torrent client argument isn't really an apt analogy here, though I do see where it is coming from.

Remember the pokémon banwave?
People lost NNID's full of paid games due to their own stupidity, even if you unbanned youself, you still couldn't use the eshop. So yeah, for that one specific use where you were banned, people could have use it to redownload their legit bought games that were taken away.

I do agree that this was not the case for most people though.

Ciangel master race!

When I try to update the cache for the first time with Free Shop, it never works, because it puts the file in the wrong folder, Ciangel never does that, so I always end up using Ciangel instead. Plus, Ciangel is better at finding DLC. :P

I can see a future where freeshop, luma3ds, and the Plailect Bible are hosted on an iso Mega link :P

Better download them while you can.

Wow, that's really bullshit ._.

Now I have to get my lazy ass up straight to my PC and download those games off the Internet instead (if freeShop server is completely killed).

There's no "Freeshop server" it uses Nintendo's CDN/Servers, you directly pull games from them and decrypt them with the EncTitleKeys/DecTitleKeys that the 3ds use to install them directly like the eshop would. For the server to be "down" CDN would have to be rehosted or eshop being permanently closed. (which will happen in some years, probably)

Ninty provides their data through their services and products. You agree to this when using their products/services/creating NNID. You are violating this when downloading from their CDN directly.
Except for the part where you do not have to agree to anything Nintendo to use Freeshop (or for that matter any PC-based downloader).
In fact you can just go back to the eula, say no, install warez, go back and say yes if it makes you feel better :P

Does that mean another ban wave might come for people with freeshop installed and used, just like SuMo?

if they change the logo for freeshop, at least I still can replace it with the original. :) (copy and paste the banner.bin)

doubt it, Nintendo can't tell the difference between eshop and freeshop download. The SuMo ban was caused by people going online early. If you were to play SuMo online now, they can't tell the difference.

Unlikely. They can't tell if you're running freeshop (they see a title id, which is not proof of anything. They can see a title id most used by freeshop running from an IP address that accessed the CDN, but NAT means trying to correlate by IP is not proof of anything.)
But their servers are their private property and could ban you because they heard you're buying a Toyota.

Nintendo can't tell the difference between eshop and freeshop download.
They COULD tell a legally purchased title apart from any other generic source. That needs actual work (comparing with server-side purchase history), boooring

Why they can't just apply a protection?
For example, if you try to download a file, it'll say "This server requires HTTP Authentication"
