Question: is this the best CFW available at the moment?
it depends what you want, and if "best" = "complete". it's the one with most patches, but not necessarily the best one.

if ALL you want is installing/launching games and DLC from your console, CBHC is better as it's faster to boot and has sign patch+region free.
if you want redNAND, or ftpiiu everywhere, then mocha is better, but longer to boot.
there is NO use to boot mocha from CBHC is you don't need redNAND.

CBHC -> CFW sysNAND signpatch+region free (faster boot method) -> piracy (what most user want)
CBHC -> Mocha (long to load) -> CFW sysNAND (not useful, use CBHC autoboot to sysNAND instead, this one add a long unneeded Mocha step)
CBHC-> Mocha (long to load) -> CFW redNAND
CBHC-> CFW sysNAND -> HBL -> Mocha elf -> HBL (very fast to return to hbl, don't return to system menu) -> wupserver, ftpiiu or any IOSUnode program

now, if you don't want autoboot (coldboot), then Mocha is the second best choice.
sys -> HBL or haxchi -> Mocha -> CFW sys. or red. NAND
or even first best choice:
sys -> HBL or haxchi -> Simple Signature patcher (faster than Mocha) -> piracy on sysNAND
OR new release fastest choice:
sys -> haxchi direct -> CFW sys with sigpatch+regionfree

it depends if you want to redirect NAND or not.

question for Dimok/fix94:
why is fix94 firmware patcher version faster? it doesn't require MiiMaker channel ?
if it doesn't, why Mocha requires it? is that for IOS kernel?
sign patching+region free don't require IOS Kernel, or does CBHC uses "haxchi" title's rights to get IOS Kernel access?
Can't CBHC patch the IOS Kernel before launching Mocha ? then mocha would jusy have to check if IOS rights are already patched or not, if it's patched no need to boot Miimaker?

do i need to purchase the ds game to install mocha? (first ive heard of haxchi, mocha and all things wiiu cfw)

Nope, just an SD card.

Haxchi is merely a loader from the system menu but you can always use browserhax to run HBL and boot from there.

Coldboot Haxchi is another CFW which is persistent in that it will boot your CFW of choice (it supports itself & mocha) when you power up the console meaning you don't need to run anything else. Remember that CBHC has inherent risks involved due to the brick risk.

oh okay thanks, ill buy spirit tracks for future use today then

Most important thing to remember if your going to try CBHC out, after you've installed CBHC DO NOT delete or move (from NAND to USB) the DS title or else you WILL brick!!!!!

You can always run the CBHC installer a second time to uninstall it if you want to mess with the DS Title.

okay, that makes sense, ill just buy the garbage game then

also, choosing the game you want to use with haxchi is maybe not needed.
you can't play that game anymore after you replaced the DS ROM with haxchi.

so if you ever want to play Spirit track on your WiiU, dump that game first with ddd and/or ticket dumper, to get the game in decrypted format and play it with loadiine.
edit: well, you can always uninstall CBHC/Haxchi later and re-download or install with WUP installer to play that game from the console. Or make a dump of your sysNAND to play it from redNAND, and replace it on sysNAND witch haxchi AFTER making the NAND dump. that's another way to keep and play that game.

Some European consoles have brain training already unlocked for free on eshop. you just need to download it to your console. (mine had it)
I guess American console don't have any free game.

I personally would not advise to use homebrews such as ddd or saviine anymore given we have a cleaner access to files.
This is what I'd recommend (after installation of haxchi or even after cbhc):
- have JNUSTool setup on PC (with common key on second line of config file) (and therefor Java installed to be able to run it)
- have NUSPacker setup (have a text file with no extension called "encryptKeyWith" containing the common key)
- check the title id of the game with http://wiiubrew.org/wiki/Title_database
- run tik2sd
- in the resulting keys.txt search for 00050000[low title id of your game] and copy the matching line without the stuff in parenthesis
ex: 0005000010179c00 censoredcensoredcensoredcensored (0005/0000001d.tik@0x0) is the line from keys.txt where I find the low title id of Brain Training (10179c00)
(the last three steps can be replaced by "get the titleid and encrypted title key from the title key website")
- In the JNUSTool folder, shift+right click and open a cmd, type "java -jar jnustool.jar " (without quotes) and paste what you copied and then add "-file .*", making this the full command in my example:
Code:
java -jar jnustool.jar 0005000010179c00 censoredcensoredcensoredcensored -file .*
Hit enter, this should download the whole decrypted title into a folder "Name of the game [titleid6]".
- Then you need to edit app.xml and meta.xml
You have to choose your new low title id. Personally I'd say look at the low title id of the same game for another region and change the last two characters in case you ever feel like installing the version of that game from that other region.
So for example 10179b00 is the low title id of the NA version of Brain Training (which is called Brain Age) and because I'm lazy I'd just fall for 01 as the last two characters. So my new low title id would be 10179b01.
That'd make my full titleid 0005000010179b01.
And you also need to change the group id accordingly. In Brain Training's example, the group id is 0000179C. Not taking into account the last two characters and the first two characters the low title id changed from 179C to 179B so the new group id would be 0000179B.
In app.xml, edit accordingly the title_id and group_id fields. In meta.xml, edit accordingly the title_id field.
- In the folder where nuspacker is, open a cmd windows (shift+right click...), type "java -jar nuspacker.jar -in " and drag and drop the decrypted and edited game folder ("Name of the game [titleid6]") into the cmd window and add " -out editedgame4install"
The whole command may look like:
Code:
java -jar nuspacker.jar -in "E:\somepath\JNUSTool\Some game name [AAAA01]" -out editedgame4install
(you can choose whatever destination, whatever folder name you want for your outfolder)
Hit enter, copy the "editedgame4install" folder into the "install" folder at the root of your SD card and install with WUP Installer.
- Launch your "new" game once so that savedata gets initialized.
- Run ftpiiu-everywhere, first, make a copy of your original savedata to your PC, you'll find it in /storage_mlc/usr/save/00050000/[low title id of the original game]
Then move to /storage_["mlc" if you installed the edited game in system storage or "usb" if you installed it on usb storage] /usr/save/00050000/[low title id of the edited game] and overwrite it with your backup.
Hopefully some day there will be a save manager similar to what we have on 3DS to avoid ftpiiu-everywhere shenanigans. (so maybe we can still tell people to use saviine, but I don't know, that method with ftpiiu kinda looks ok to me for now)
Also, note that WiiU data management is very confused when last two characters of title id's are not 00 and you'll find your game data and save data as if they were separate games on that system menu.
And note that when I explain stuff I apparently make it sound way more complicated than what it actually is so don't be frightened ^^

why download in file format and use NUSpacker which will make a bad signed content?
use this :
java -jar JNUSTool.jar <titleID> -dlEncrypted

Extract your ticket and put it with your downloaded app/tmd
install with WUPinstaller

Even easier : extract ticket with tik2Sd, use NUS download helper or uTikdownloadhelper, etc. (just drag/drop the ticket and you get the game !)
no command line, etc.

Of course, you can't install if you want haxchi, or it will replace it.
That's only in case you want to play that game and remove haxchi, or install on redNAND.

editing the TitleID is complicated for newbies. it's a possible method of course if you want BOTH haxchi and your game used for haxchi installed at the same time.

what is the groupID ?
editing to another region's ID is not problematic? maybe DS VC never have any updates so it's fine?
I know brain training had an update but it was a full re-download, not a realtime applied patch, so it should be fine.

You realise you responding to a person who admitted he has zero knowledge of how Wii U hacking works. Your method is certainly better for an advanced user but for a beginner? Nope, if anything its just gonna scare him away.

Extract your ticket and put it with your downloaded app/tmd

If you do this you're just overwriting Haxchi. The whole point of this is to be able to use HaxChi (or its coldboot variant CBHC) as well as the game that was purchased from the menu.

if anything its just gonna scare him away.

yes, I understand what you want to do (have both at the same time).
that's a little complicated for new comers :p
I and you understand all this, but I wanted something easy for him.

I think tik2sd + uTikDownloader is the easiest way.
but of course, it's only in case he want to remove haxchi or install it on redNAND.

another solution is to use loadiine (Jnustool with "<titleID> <titleKey>", without "-dlEncrypted").

but thank you for taking the time to write all this guide :)
it could interest some users.

edit:
for the savegame, you can also use wupserver, but it implies that the user has python installed, and use a cfw with wupserver installed too.

or install it on redNAND.
Hum not sure it will work I remember having trouble installing my VC game that I was using in sysNAND as HaxChi to redNAND because for some weird reason any software that's installed on sysNAND MLC (but not on redNAND MLC) appears on redNAND menu as corrupted data but isn't visible in data management, and even when trying different things (like remove the ticket from redNAND) I couldn't get it to install. (whether it'd be with WUPInstaller or from eShop) My solution was copying the haxchi'd title from sysMLC to USB then moving from USB to redMLC.

Fix94 said it's because the title list is cached.
Titles found on sysNAND are remembered when on redNAND, and redNAND can't find them so there's no data or ticket to delete. it's more like a bug of the menu adding an icon for the cached game list even if the data can't be found.

I don't know if redNAND is adding NEW titles (the one installed only on redNAND), but I guess it does or you wouldn't be able to install games to redNAND at all.
That's just a thing to patch in future CFWs, removing ghost title's icon.

groupID is 00050000 XXXXXXXX this part of title ID
And editing regionID is fine as long you have region patches

I chose another region's id as a base in case something went wrong and the haxchi'd title and the game would do weird things together: I did not want them to have the same group id, which can be assimilated to the "owner" of the game's files (as in Linux's file's ownership) (run stat from wupserver tu see what I mean).
You could be totally fine with using the complete id of the other region title with no edit to the last two characters as long as you don't install that other region's title. Moreover, contrary to a fully customized id, your friends would see you using an actual title instead of whatever users see when their friends are playing something with an "abnormal" title id.

it depends what you want, and if "best" = "complete". it's the one with most patches, but not necessarily the best one.

if ALL you want is installing/launching games and DLC from your console, CBHC is better as it's faster to boot and has sign patch+region free.
if you want redNAND, or ftpiiu everywhere, then mocha is better, but longer to boot.
there is NO use to boot mocha from CBHC is you don't need redNAND.

CBHC-> CFW sysNAND -> HBL -> Mocha elf -> HBL (very fast to return to hbl, don't return to system menu) -> wupserver, ftpiiu or any IOSUnode program

now, if you don't want autoboot (coldboot), then Mocha is the second best choice.
sys -> HBL or haxchi -> Mocha -> CFW sys. or red. NAND
or even first best choice:
sys -> HBL or haxchi -> Simple Signature patcher (faster than Mocha) -> piracy on sysNAND

it depends if you want to redirect NAND or not.

question for Dimok/fix94:
why is fix94 firmware patcher version faster? it doesn't require MiiMaker channel ?
if it doesn't, why Mocha requires it? is that for IOS kernel?
sign patching+region free don't require IOS Kernel, or does CBHC uses "haxchi" title's rights to get IOS Kernel access?
Can't CBHC patch the IOS Kernel before launching Mocha ? then mocha would jusy have to check if IOS rights are already patched or not, if it's patched no need to boot Miimaker?

If I want to make the switch from (Haxchi -> Signature patcher -> sysNAND) to (Haxchi -> Mocha -> redNAND) will I need to reinstall all of the games I currently have installed to my USB drive or will redNAND effectively mimic how my setup looks currently?

no need for re-install, it will be a perfect 1:1 copy

the first time you use redNAND, it will format your SD card to add a copy of your current NAND state.
All your data, games, savegame, etc. will be copied. RedNAND will also see and can launch the games you had on USB at the time you made the NAND copy.

Games you install on system NAND AFTER the NAND copy creation, will not be on redNAND, but due to a bug redNAND will display empty icons with "?", don't worry about them.
Games you install on redNAND will be only on redNAND.
Games you install on USB after the NAND copy creation will have issues on the other NAND location because it will miss the ticket. (Someone can confirm this?)

Any news to dump a trimmed RedNAND? Because 33GB is just too much XD
After all, in the 33GB, 85% of the data is just empty data... X_X Right? (if you haven't installed anything on the wii u nand).
