So my Wii U has been having all kinds of errors lately, and I believe it's due to a corrupt NAND. None of this will be related to hacking, because it was happening before I started using anything.

The issues I was getting at the beginning were corrupted game save files. Whenever I would load a game with a corrupted save file, it would immediately crash the Wii U with one of the official Black screen error messages. Deleting these save files and restarting my games worked fine.

Next, I noticed that I could no longer load the Mii Maker app without the same crashes and error messages.

Downloading DLC for Mario Kart 8 (purchased) had the same problem, but it was able to work on a second attempt.

Finally, now that I'm attempting to backu up my NAND for RedNAND, when I boot the CFW Booter it just goes to a blank screen. The same goes for all other apps that seem to attempt to access the NAND.

I was however, able to get an otp.bin and a seeprom.bin file from the respective dumpers, but I don't know if they are complete since they are only 1kb each and the apps seemed to just end up on a blank screen upon loading with not visual output.

Has anyone heard of this issue before? What's the best thing for me to do at this point?

Are you using your internal memory or an external usb stick/hdd to save your games/saves?
If you're using external device, maybe it is damaged somehow....

I can't recomend you anything since it's quite dangerous to do something, but if it was my wii u, i would be very bothered with it and maybe would try to do a system reset (initial configuration, system format, don't know how it is called) to try if it could fix my problem...

BUT... since you're thinking your nand may be corrupted, a system format would probably kill your wii u at once if something goes wrong on the process
(specially if the problem is with some of the memory chips, as memory chips when they get damaged somehow, they begin to corrupt files or make the system to work unexpected... so I wouldn't recomend that....

sorry i wrote so much with no solutions, but maybe my words can make you think more about it and find a solution yourself....

Thanks, you've basically covered everything I've been thinking already, which is why I posted here in case someone else has a better solution. My save files are internal memory only. Like I said, launching Mii Maker also causes the whole system to crash, so it's likely that the NAND is corrupted somehow.

I would do a factory reset on the system before going too far down the rabbit hole. (Settings > System Settings > Delete All Content and Settings)

If it's still not working after that, then you might be onto something.

If that really is the case, I'm really not sure how you'd go about fixing it yourself. You'd need a proper NAND dump to restore, and you obviously can't make a dump right now. Unfortunately, there's also very little documentation available for making your own hardmod :/

Have you tried contacting Nintendo's support yet?

You should call nintendo service, they're really great at helping... maybe you could possibly get a new system! It won't hurt to try =) explain everything that is happening...

When i had my first WII system, i had some random freezes and it was getting worse and worse...
I called them and got a new system (actually, they took my system and fixed it, i already had it for more than a year) they had to change the motherboard. I lost every save but my system came back working properly

Yeah, thanks everyone. Maybe I will try calling Nintendo, I mean it's a lunch console, so it's hard to know how much support I'll get, but it can't hurt.

Ok, So apparently Nintendo won't fix my console, so it's up to me to fix it I guess. Does anyone have any experience with this? I know there are two NAND's on the Wii U. If I add a hard mod, is there some way I can attempt to fix this? Which one should I do? From what I can guess, it should be the one that holds the User data, which is lucky since it's easier, but I just want to be sure.

Yeah, if it's a launch console, Nintendo won't fix it for free since the 1-year warranty expired. However, if you can stomach the price, they will likely replace the NAND chip, since it's likely faulty.

Wii U's (without gamepad) go for ~50 quid on ebay.
Why not get a new Wii U and transfer everything from the old one to the new one (be sure to delete corrupted save data etc)

I could do that, and I probably will if I can't repair this one myself, but why not try and fix this one first if I can?

I wish, but they already had it in the shop and they found some evidence of modification (which I thought I removed all traces of it from the vWii which was the only thing I hacked) and refused to service it. No harm done I guess.

Aw man, that sucks. I wonder if feigning ignorance, claiming it was second-hand or something could have worked in your favor.

I agree on the part of wanting to fix it.
But seeing the tools and time needed would probably be equally as expensive as a loose Wii U..

But feel free to try, report back if you got any progress.

For the record, this is correct. otp.bin should be only 1024 bytes (1KiB) and seeprom.bin should be only 512 bytes (0.5KiB), so this at least sounds correct.
