At this point I want ask the community if are there enough people liking other homebrew for the 3ds (both original or ported from other systems) or if what people really want are only new commercial games for their hacked console.

In my free time (really not so much) I'm working on a lot of projects: just finished the port to 3ds of 3 games from the Retroguru team; almost finished Zelda Picross and Griffon Legends ports; Zelda 3T is at 70%; I'm planning to start from scratch a new Atari 2600 emulator that could reach better performances on a o3ds than the one I made a year ago. And in my to do list there are other great games like Mario Wars or Alex the Allegator.

This is a lot of work if you consider that I don't like playing games, I only like coding.

At the moment there are a lot of things I can learn coding on the 3ds platform, but believe me there are a lot of other platforms other than the 3ds on which I could spend time.

One of this days I could start a project for an original game on a retroconsole like GBC or maybe GBA, or I could swap to coding to PSVITA (my son doesn't use its PSVITA anymore), or even better I could start an original game with the support of the guys at Retroguru Team.

So, let see how may Tempers think that people like me or the other dev of this community (some really better than me at coding) should continue to make new homebrews for the 3ds.

Thank you in advance, I really need some motivation.

I am always eager to try new homebrews for the 3ds no matter if they fit my personal taste or not, and I'm grateful of all the effort that the developers put into them. Full speed Atari 2600 on o3ds would be a great addition. Please continue your great work :)

Implement slowhax. You'd get a ton of attention and attaboys for that :P

But seriously, hmm. I think making a decent minecraft (or undertale - much harder) port would be a good, challenging project and people would definitely appreciate you for that. Smea made a POC minecraft, but he didn't get around to finishing it.

I see you have been porting some pretty darn good games lately but, honestly, they don't have much name recognition, and people tend to pass up on them despite your excellent effort. The thing you have to realize is console homebrew will never return to the popularity of the DS/PSP/Wii scenes so you have to choose carefully what to work on: popular game ports / emulators / exploits / console specific tools / cfws -- if you want any sort of feedback. Just being honest here. Please don't leave us for PC / Android, you're very much appreciated. : )

It is your time and effort. Only you can determine if it is worth it. If you want to reach the largest audience than the 3ds is probably not the best platform.

I don't need attention and my projects are tailored to the time I can spend on them. Sorry I think that minecraft is too much work for me at the moment

Make some new game or something, we need more good looking games and utilities

I'll finish the work in progress. But don't know if it's really woth the effort. You can have whatever application you want on an Android device.

I'm starting to think that for most people new homebrews on the 3ds are like nice stickers on the cover. Cool but not really usefull. Isn't it?

I remember early on you were into exploit development. Still interested in that?
Slowhax is documented on 3dbrew, and I think someone with your ability could figure it out.

I'm sure there are ideas that haven't been tried, like geolocation, maybe homebrew to play pogo on 3ds. It is more about the ideas really, homebrew is just an avenue.

Sorry, no more interested in it.

Working on the disassembler takes too much time: I had to quit when I was loosing too many sleep hours (not to say that my 3ds and my notebook with all the code was stolen).

Maybe I'll back on reverse engineering on the Switch in 2020 :D.

That about Android is true, but it's not a console/handheld.

You wouldn't believe the amount of times I saw this exact question being asked on other console homebrew forums.

It's not too far-fetched to say >80% of the people browsing this 3DS forum are just looking for ways to play free games. But you have to look at that shimmer of light coming from the 20% that admire people's creations. The ones who look for ports of their favorite games, the ones who want to experience fun little games, the ones who want to get the maximum out of their consoles...

It's up to you if you want to keep on coding cool stuff or leave, but I sure as hell wouldn't want you or your ports leaving the 3DS homebrew community (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) :D

No, I want to see great homebrew, since there is none what drew my attention

What the 3ds scene really needs is a couple of Roguelikes! Then the 3ds would be immortal! Since Roguelikes means infinite gameplay :)

Spelunky Classic and Witch Blast are two projects that has been started by Shutterbug2000 and theCruel. But then never got finished, yet. There are a LOT of great other open source Roguelikes that could be ported!

Thank you for the hint. Powder sources are already in the folder of possible future projects. Maybe after releasing Zelda Picross (that miss only sound) and Griffon legend, I could start it.

Poring Spelunky would be great, but coding the whole engine from scratch is a lot of work to do. I successfully imported Spelunky source on Enigma, but replacing the 386 toolchain with the devkit pro toolchain and porting all the needed libs for the 3ds, is time consuming too.

Witch Blast seems to be an easier project, the big work is porting SFML or at least mapping it's API to ctrulib calls. Let see if someone decide to start this project :)

Cool man! Powder would be awsome! TheCruel has started porting Witch Blast. I think it is at a playable state, but it needs some more polish. Or am I wrong @TheCruel ? :)

I'd always be happy to see you do more 3DS homebrew :)

I have to thank you @hippy dave , all my work of the last year starts with your alpha version of Handy3ds :grog:

These are the projects I almost finished:

Zelda Picross (only sound missing, I usually add it whene verything else works fine)

Picross1.png Picross2.png Picross3.png Picross4.png

Griffon Legends (I have to fix some crashes and to add sound)

Griffon1.png Griffon2.png Griffon3.png Griffon4.png

And in my homebrew folder I found that I have a version of SuperTux Milestone1 already compiling that I have to start to debug. I forgot to have it.
