Undertale on the Wii U and 3DS

Hey all! My name is Casriel, and i am the Co Owner of Project Sunshine (originally Project Echo.) I work alongside the project owner Dorian and our other devs (owen_programmer, ralcactus, shortpie, cooingmaxito, etc) to develop a Undertale port to the 3DS and Wii U.

This UNDERTALE port is different than the one being developed by CooingMaxito (which is a demake.) Our port is a true GM port using a custom version of Butterscotch (GML 1.4 to C) called Cinnamon. Cinnamon allows the data .win to run on the 3DS and Wii U.

The port runs at a stable 30fps in most areas on Wii U, old 3ds, and new 3ds. A SURVEY_PROGRAM (DELTARUNE CH1) port using a new GMS 2 version of Cinnamon will soon be in the works.

The 3DS port also supports bottom screen and will be used for dialogue, fights, and menus. You can join the Discord server below and get access to current builds, aswell as sneak peeks at the project👀: https://discord.gg/UFf4Zm3eX

I swear this is like the 3rd one I saw in 1 week.

Will this survive more than 24 hours this time?
apparently, this is more like an actual "port" as it's a homebrew that just interprets the original game files and not, as other projects, a complete remake from scratch. Of all those failed announcements, this might be one that actually makes it.

can i ask why dont you post the builds here? why do we need to join another website?

I can't really find any info on this tool but I want to ask what the chances are for other GM games then? I would kill for any spelunky port (Classic or HD) since the DS one is unfinished and broken and the games were made with GameMaker with the source code for classic being publicly available.

It's not really a tool. It's a custom GM runner that is aiming to get Undertale fully running at the moment. It isn't like a drag-and-drop conversion tool if that's what you were after.

Given what I'm seeing in the repo, you'd have to write code for rendering using citro3d to even get it started (https://github.com/MrPowerGamerBR/Butterscotch/blob/main/src/renderer.h). You'd have to implement all of the calls the RendererVTable struct expects. Using SDL might work given how short and basic the function pointer list is, but I'm pretty sure SDL is software rendering only on 3DS which could impact performance. It's also not enough the run other GM games at the moment.

I gotta admit though. For a Java dev using AI to help him... It's really clean C at a glance. Bravo.
 
I can't wait to test it on the Wii U, it'll be an excuse to finally get my girlfriend to play the game.

note that this build is a pretty old one and won't work the best
