excellent work ::hoenix::
My contribution is not a tutorial on how to install coldboothax, it is a mod to sysnand iosihax to be bootable by coldboothax. This is maybe why no one complained. Thanks anyway!

My changes have been merged to dimok's branch!

That's great to hear, dude. Your changes are awesome. Glad to see they've been merged into the official branch :)

yes, effectively, its modification in fw.img avoids the loop in iosuhax.
Our guide is designed for rednand only, now we are testing with your modification and modified cfwbooter, to avoid double loading, we hope it works.

Should have found where IOSU checks for the game region. Will try later if the patch works and will update my repo.

I am not close to my Wii U right now, is there some one willing to test the region free patch?

This is the only version of iosuhax for which it is possible to restore a coldboothaxed console to normal. Even with redNAND, the console is practically doomed to have coldboothax installed.

It is possible to remove coldboothax when u are using it to boot redNAND, when you have a possibility to boot HBL. For examble, this is my config.txt:

Code:
a=wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/homebrew_launcher.elf
x=wiiu/apps/ftpiiu_everywhere/ftpiiu_everywhere.elf
down=wiiu/apps/snes9x2010_libretro/snes9x2010_libretro.elf
default=fw.img

So I just replace redNAND fw.img with the cfw fw.img, then hold the button 'a' when the iosuhax splashscreen is showing up. Then I'm in HBL and I can modify my system.xml with wupclient. :)
But now I'm using your fw.img, thanks man.

Good to know! If you are interested, now I have got also region free in my iosuhax fork.

Also can I use the commands "make" or "make cfw" if I'm only wanting this for region free without editing xml files? I've already made the coldboothax(make cfw-coldboot) and will probably do it after I test my fw.img file first.

Last edited by Orion,
@pietempgba can this fw.img be used just for signpatches and freeregion or is it only for coldboothax? Will it load the system.xml/homemenu or will it try to load syshax.xml every time?

Nvm that's only if you edit system.xml right? so it should function as all other iosuhax fw.img files right?

Last edited by Orion,
it's for both here's part of the make script

Code:
cfw:
@$(MAKE) SECTIONS="0x8120000 0x5000000 0x5100000 0x8140000 0x4000000 0xE0000000" BSS_SECTIONS="0x5074000 0x8150000" fw.img
0xE00000000.s has freeregion in it

You enable coldboothax supporto (and thus lo ad syshax.xml) only if you compile with make cfw-coldboot. If you use make or make cfw you get the standard iosuhax with also region free

Yes, I see no reason for it to not work from sysNAND

I have a question. Now assuming someone follows all the right steps aforementioned in this guide... without bricking because of a mistake they made or anything like that... once This coldboothax installation is actually up and running successfully on the wiiu... Would there be a risk of bricking later further down the line??? I once failed to load fw.img using haxchi, the console would freeze after the wii u many logo appears, and eventually I discovered that it was because the SD card failed to mount... so I simply re-inserted it into the socket, and then it worked. Now assuming someone uses this: https://gbatemp.net/threads/haxchi-boot-fw-img-from-nand-no-sd-card-needed.449769/

would this mean that they are safe from such issues??? Can someone at least say that they're like 80-90% sure that this method is brick-safe?? (Assuming that you didn't commit a mistake during installation, and that you tested it successfully on your own console)

And P.S @::Phoenix:: Thank you for your efforts, this is excellent work.
