Hi there everyone, so i'll try to give a much info as i can upfront...

This is the problem: Apparently there is a corrupt file in my Wii U that renders just a couple of my legit games fully unplayable. i Would like to learn how to fix that instead of just running backups.

I would actually like to use the game disks i own to play my games, so i want to first know if there is a legit way of doing that. I ask your help for it.

My Wii U is currently in the lastest firmware update.

So, here is the issue:

I have over 30 Physical games for my WiiU. All with the exception of 3 work:

Bayonetta 2
Devil's Third
Kirby Rainbow Curse

Every other game works flawlessly. Except these 3. Here is what happens:

Bayonetta 2: Goes into menus, as soon as it starts loading up gameplay, console Hard freezes. Needs to turn it off and then back on for it to work.

Devil's Third: Game freezes during first cutscene. Home button still works.

Kirby Rainbow Curse : Game freezes on the first cutscene. home button still works.

Here are the things i have tried, NONE cause any changes:

Tested different discs.
Formated Wii U and reinstalled everything.
Formated Wii U and played just the bad games without any updates.
Left the Wii U unplugged for over a day
Cleaned the back fan
Made sure the Wii U is not heating up (all other games work fine)
Deleted all game files and tried again
Tried contacting my Local Nintendo certified repair shop (they won't even take the console in. Have zero clue on what could it be)

Here is ONE thing that gave me a different result

The Bayonetta 2 DEMO works normally.
Bayonetta 1 also works fine. the issue is just with Bayonetta 2.

After many months of trying to understand what happened to my console, the best guess i have is that some file got corrupted possibly during a bad update or a power outtage. So now im stuck with that. I would really like to see if i can fix my console, maybe by using Homebrew and hacking tools i can give the console a TRUE reset to factory (since just formatiing doesn't actually delete everything it's suppose to delete?) I dunno, i'm stumped here and stuck.

I really don't want to ''just play backups off an external HDD" to be the only solution here, as i really would like to play the games i legit have, so if anybody can help me out here, it would be greatly appreciated.

Some more to try for you.
Clean the lens.
Change position of the WiiU (horizontal, vertical)
Remove every storage plugged in (sd/usb)

This really sounds to me like a problem with the drive. I would just install any of the 3 games on USB just to see if it freezes at the same spot. If it doesn't, then it has something to do with your disc drive. If it freezes at the same spot, then I have no clue...

Kirby should be a quick download for testing...

I don't think they would buy a Wii U with a fault like this.
He could be a complete ass and not mention it. They don't exactly have the most thorough testing procedures, at least the store near me anyways. (I know considering I once sold a 3DS game with all the internals of the cartridge removed.)

Yeah, they don't take time testing. This is why I bought a faulty Wii U Game there earlier this year. Wouldn't even replace it. I went to another shop and they fixed it by polishing the disc. Wii U Drives can be picky...

Thanks for the replies and attempts at help, i really appreciate it, but like i said in my post... really hard to imagine it's the lens or the drive when i can play 27 Disks perfectly and only these 3 games give out the exact same problem in the exact same place every single time.

As for scratched or damaged disks, not only i already cover that (and all disks are perfect) i already tried multiple disks for each title. Exact same issue in the exact same place.

Which is why i narrowed down to it being some corrupt file in the system, probably due to a faulty update process or the like. I was hoping that with hacking maybe i could do a proper ''reset to factory'' to see if it fixed the issue, since just formatting the console and the basic ''rest to factory default'' process the console does, is not 100%.

EDIT:

Also, i'm not going to sell a faulty console just to make it ''someone else's problem''. If i was an asshole i would just Hack the damn thing and play bootlegs of all my games out of some HDD already... trying to do the right thing here.

Since no one actually answered that question, I will say that it would theoretically be possible. All you'd need is someone else's dump of their Wii U's TSOP NAND on the same firmware version, and a TSOP hardmod in order to be able to flash the NAND dump to your console.

If i was an asshole i would just play all my games off a HDD already... trying to do the right thing here.
I'm confused why you think it's wrong to do that. You've purchased the games and therefore should have the right to play them any way you choose. It's just awful business practice to force someone to pay for a game twice for access to a digital version.
As long as you didn't go out and sell the discs after installing the problematic games to a HDD, there's nothing morally wrong about it.

Seems like u never had a dirty laser, because u rule that out. ;)
Remember what happened on the Wii when the first DL Disc (Smash Bros) came out.
Or what happens, when u use burned media on a Gamecube.

There is an easy solution to rule this out: Try to run the 3 games from USB. If they work, either your drive is broken or the discs are damaged. If they don't there is something corrupt in the Wii Us software.

And yeah, thanks for not making this someone else's problem. :)

So here is the thing... the Discs load. Like, normally. i can get IN GAME. But they just freeze during their cutscenes when the actual game start. Bayonetta is particualr weird since i actually need to POWER DOWN the console. It just freezes... i can't even imagine this being just a Dirty lens... But, i'll try anything... guess i'll pick up a Disc Cleaning kit then....

I know people use to make for the Wii a few NAND flash applications to remove bricks, Downgrade firmware and the like... but i've been out of the scene for a long while now, so i don't even know if there is anything like that for the Wii U...

Unfortunately no, the access we have on the Wii U isn't open enough for that yet. NAND dumping and flashing is still limited to hardmodding.

Thing is: before you rule everything else out, every other effort is futile. If there really is something wrong with your system software, the effort to check all those files will be massive. Like Irastris says the access to Wii U is still limited. And what you are describing are exactly the symptoms you get by dirty lenses or damaged discs.

Pro-Tip:
- Have you tried your copy of Bayonetta 2 on another Wii U? If it works, the disc is fine.
- Have you tried another copy of Bayonetta 2 on your Wii U? If it works, your system is fine.
(There might be a few exceptions where a drive and a disc just might not "like" each other... sometimes a disc is not perfectly pressed or drive not perfectly fitting to the standards...)

I remember having similar symptoms with a used copy of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. There were no scratches on the disc, but it just wouldn't start in 2 out of 3 tries. I exchanged it and it worked.

Actually, this doesn't matter. Same thing happened to me before, though I got an error message after a while. Back on the Dreamcast there was an issue that FACTORY SEALED copies of Worms simply wouldn't play on some systems. This stuff happens. Many GameCubes also had an incredibly weak Laser.

You said it might be a corrupt file. Well, your drive has a firmware too. Maybe this software got updated faulty.
Once again, install one game to USB and try. You have to rule out at least that these freezes are caused by a corrupted data-transfer.

I highly doubt these games are calling a certain system-file in the middle of a cut-scene...
