you can install it to NAND, as long as you're actually doing it in sysnand.If I'm reading it right you should make sure to install the game to USB, not NAND if you want to be able to use rednand.

Buy a DS VC game from the eShop, trust me it'll help.
A homebrew similar to Priiloader would be pretty useful for this so we could decide on what to boot when the console starts (i.e. you hit power, and boot into this hypothetical homebrew menu). For example, you could set it to boot RedNAND if no buttons are held, or if you hold some combo like select + start, it'd pause and go to a menu instead, giving you options on what to do.
