So, when I first built my computer (About 1 month ago) I was getting some very solid FPS! 60 FPS in GTA 5! No drops! Now, I'm getting between 50-60 FPS...Hardly am I staying at 60. Can someone please help me figure out what is going on? I need some help deciding what to do.

Specs:
i5 6400 @3.4 Ghz
GTX 1060
8 Gig Ram

Press ctrl+alt+delete and open Task Manager. Chances are you downloaded a program that's hogging CPU resources

It's not dropping "for no reason." Obviously there's a reason.

Did you recently upgrade a driver? Sometimes they can actually result in poorer performance.

Has it become hotter where you live? Maybe the heat's increasing the strain on your cpu and/or gpu.

Installed any Windows updates or new programs? Try uninstalling them/shutting them off.

Got dozens of tabs open in Chrome or Firefox? Try closing some.

There's various things you can try to determine what the problem is. Try checking task manager and your cpu/gpu temps like the two people above me mentioned.

I already went through a 2 hour process with that. Got my Memory down to 12% usage and my CPU to 2%. No change.

Maybe your CPU or GPU throttle when getting too hot.
Any way to fix that?

Has it become hotter where you live? Maybe the heat's increasing the strain on your cpu and/or gpu. Colder

Installed any Windows updates or new programs? Try uninstalling them/shutting them off. Completely disabled Windows Defender

Got dozens of tabs open in Chrome or Firefox? Try closing some. I never play with Chrome open

Well first I would check if the CPU and GPU really get too hot. Install a temperature monitor app like Speccy or Core Temp, run your game and when the FPS drop, check how hot your CPU/GPU is.

It wouldn't seem anything is over heating...the things is...it's really only been happening in GTA 5. I used to be able to play it a 60 fps (a month ago, when I got my PC) and it has drops alot. 45-60 fps. It could be that I was playing a pirated version.

I also had a lot of mods installed, and they all stopped working at once, which is also when the frame drops occurred. That could be a potential lead.

Has the game has an update? Maybe you've just come across a more demanding part.

Run a benchmark and compare it to similar systems, this will tell for sure if you have a problem

Update guys

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure this was my GPU. If not, then this is way too hot for my CPU. Should I invest in a new CPU cooler?

If your FPS is dropping it doesn't mean that its the CPUs or GPUs fault, it could be that your RAM died or that your HDD is dying.
Not sure how to check RAM but you can check the health of the HDD with crystaldiskinfo

it could be that your RAM died
the only issue you can get is either stop working or memory corruption
i had a corrupted ram stick the computer started to behave in a weird way, like bluescreens, random programs crashing...
drop in performance is no way related to ram... (unless the ram is full)

that your HDD is dying
maybe... fragmentation is a common cause however i suspect OP already took care of that (or if using a recent OS like 8 or 10 that is already taked cared automatically)
however, i notice poor performance when my HDD is close to full (not really sure why this happens)

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

    not really

It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Brb
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
