Well, I've been using gateway for a while now but with the new pokemon game coming up I think it's time move on. My o3ds is on firmware 4.5.0 with emunand installed and I've downgraded my 3ds when I first bought my gateway. I am thinking about installing luma cfw and found this page online https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/wiki should I just follow it. Do I need to do anything special since I've downgraded my 3ds and are there any risks. Would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks

https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki follow this guide and if you want to use your gateway afterwards

Well I'm already confused :D, Are the any pros or cons of using gateway alongside luma and what do you suggest I do
I myself say you sell your gateway and just do the first guide linked. The only real pro of using gateway with luma is the gateway cheat menu. If you don't use it then only do the first guide and sell your gateway.

A few questions so the advice is a bit more helpful for specifically you:
1) are you using gateway's emunand? Or is it just sysnand on 4.5?
2) If using gateway's emunand, are you wanting to keep that?
3) do you have NNID attached to an emunand or sysnand?

1-Sysnand is on 4.5, but I am using emunand
2-Since I don't use the cheat menu I wouldn't care keeping it or not
2-I have my nnid attached to emunand(and I don't want to lose it since I bought many games with it)

You have a few options.

1) The least head-achey one would probably be to install a9lh, and then just follow the following guide to autoboot into your gateway emunand (as mentioned earlier):
https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/

2) the most future-proof one would be to take your saves from your games in gateway emunand (using jk's savemanager), install a9lh, and then just attach your NNID to your sysnand and redownload your games. Get rid of emunand by formatting your sd card, and get rid of gateway/sell it. Only downside is you might lose saves/puzzle pieces/streetpass folk. Upside is you get to start fresh and any gateway tomfoolery won't trip you up down the road.

3) You...should be able to follow the a9lh guide and in the process, flash your gateway emunand and make that your sysnand. I'm not sure how advisable that is, and would recommend to wait on that until someone with more know-how can advise.

Personally, I'd go with 2, and just use the gateway bluecard as a ds romcart. With a9lh you don't need emunand anymore, basically. But there are choices =]

So, if I go with the second option I won't lose my eshop games attached to my nnid?

nope! the eshop purchased games are attached to your nnid, and are encrypted to the console you download them to. So when you attach your nnid to your sysnand, you'll be able to redownload them from your eshop history. (This is why you should rip your saves from emunand and then inject them your sysnand games...which works for most games, but maybe not all)

to redownload games purchased from eshop:
- From the HOME Menu, select the Nintendo eShop icon and tap "Open."
- Scroll left and select "Settings / Other."
- Scroll down and select "Redownloadable Software."
- Select "Redownload" next to the software you wish to redownload.
- Select "Download."
- Select "Download Later" or "Download Now."

sure thing! If you're going with number 2, then you'll have to format the emunand system stuff. But since it's gateway, I'm not 100% sure it's as simple as going into the emunand system settings and formatting there.

I don't have a gateway (for a while now anyway), but do you know if you can format the system from within emunand? If you can, then you'll need to do that before starting the second option.
In a9lh guides faq page it says
"Q:Can I keep my NNID?
A: If you start with an NNID and follow every step, you will end up keeping your NNID at the end."
so I'll just follow it and do I need to follow the guide that corresponds to my sysnand verion or emunand version

Well, that particular passage is assuming the sysnand has your NNID (or emunand with your NNID is being flashed to your sysnand).

Since your gateway emunand has you NNID, you'll have to unlink your NNID from the gateway emunand. Then you'll be able to attach it to your sysnand. Formatting your emunand from the 3ds settings inside emunand will do this (only other way is to call nintendo to do it for you)

Do I need to format it or can I just unlink it
