It actually shouldn't matter if it's free or paid. They are the same. The Wii U still needs to unlock them. But if this Loadiine Mod can actually load DLC without the Wii unlocking it, that would be a cool feature. I'm testing it now with Tokyo Mirage Sessions in Smash Mode since I don't own any of it's DLC's. I'll report back with my results.

It didn't work. But that could be because I'm using the Reincarnation patch. I'll try a different game such as Hyrule Warriors.

Sure, but the only two changes to the master channel since the build that is provided on the site were to the icons and spell checking illegitimate. So in this case, no, it's not better to compile yourself.

Depends of the user status... If you're just a final user, then yes, it's not worth compiling it yourself.
But, if you want to have the better experience (like edit the code to add some cool features, or remove useless one, change the images, etc), then compiling it yourself is a way better.
But yeah, i agree with you, in most cases, it's not necessary.

I tried this mod and it works great! I was able to get free mario kart 8 DLC without owning it. It also has a nice splash screen.

I downloaded mario kart 8 with dlc. (I can pm you it if you want it). Then I replaced the loadiine_gx2.elf from the main loadiine with the mod's elf (https://masqchips.github.io/loadiine_gx2/ Link on right). I booted homebrew launcher then loadiine. I have game settings popup on and i enable DLC then DLC no legitimate. I made sure i changed the mode to smash and it worked. (i think dlc for any game requires smash)

Nope, they are both the same except the DLC just takes space on your hard drive.

If it weren't for open source, you wouldn't have the homebrew launcher, this mod or any other .rpx loader to begin with, or any of the CFWs for the 3DS beyond gateway, or 90% of wii homebrew software, not to mention the legal implications of breaking GPL. Closed source is the reason NTR will never see new development outside of the bootntr cia, which is open sourced, and has been updated so far for every new version of firmware. Open Source is good for everyone except for people who think they can abuse it and ruin it for everyone else. Not to mention, you have no way of verifying a closed-source program, so you have no idea what could be going on, even if it's doing one thing it could be doing a lot of other nefarious things in the background.

GPL doesn't exist to be a bogeyman oppressing developers, it exists so that people can work together out in the open and improve everything as a group. If you're so egotistical to break GPL because you think "it doesn't matter when it's a game hack" then you clearly don't have the interest of developments as a whole in mind, and would prefer to hoard your modifications on something that someone provided for everyone freely and openly. If you want to do that, fine, keep it to yourself, but don't act like you're on some crusade against the evil GPL because you're too self-centered to follow the rules.

I didn't look at the original code in the first place, neither did I modify it directly. I hacked it. So yes, gpl in this scenario is stupid and a ball ache. If i didn't need to see the source to hack it then why does anyone else.
