From Software is working on three new games, including a new Armored Core

from-software-logo.jpg

From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed in an interview with IGN that his company is working on the next entry in the Armored Core franchise. When asked about From Software's upcoming games, he replied,
"There are several titles that we are working on; some of those are dark fantasy games, some could be a mech game. The second thing is that one of the new titles I've been working on will probably comply with the expectations of the fans."

IGN then pressed him, asking if the mech game was perhaps a new Armored Core, to which he answered,
"Yeah. We're already working on Armored Core"

What? Why would anyone want to try rebooting such a dead game? Almost as bad as mech warrior. I remember both of them being just about equally bad or boring. Playing the snes game, it had that cool cg graphics much like how the intro of sonic 3 was or super mario rpg, but it was just boring and difficult, and armor core on psx was just hard to control and play, but was a cool idea. Then if anyone remembers steel batallion on xbox with the ridiculous set up controller? Someone make a Xenogears remake already so we can make ourself feel cool with a huge robot fotress command center set up in your room to think you actually feel like your playing some gundam or robotech ripoff. :P

Armored Core, f*ck yeah! Disregard the post above, @Sonic Angel Knight clearly doesn't know s*it about mech games, AC rocks, and so does Mech Warrior, one of the best mech series of all time. It's okay though, this is all a matter of taste - some have it, @Sonic Angel Knight doesn't, and we shouldn't make fun of him because of his affliction. ;O;

Neat. Armored Core games were pretty great, would love to see something new.

I'm not saying the game is bad or awful. I just remember it being frustrating, with some of the difficulty spikes. That is all, i was a huge fan of Armor core when i played the demo disc, back in the day, and i think i remember playing the 2 player against my brother, But mech warrior was like "Do this mission, then do this mission, here is a mission, complete within time limit." The ice level, and some of the weapons was just hard to use. But i do admit after playing mech assult on xbox i did like that one a lot better, it did fix most fustrations i had and it just felt more satisfying. :)

There are essentially two ways you can make a mech game. One tries to depict the reality of mechs being fallible walking hunks of steel that are difficult to control, with lots of weight to them, and not a lot finesse, like walking tanks - that's Mech Warrior. The other is anime-like fantasy that tries to depict mechs as light, sleek and agile, as if they were made of spandex, wielding obsolete weapons like swords for some reason even though cannons and missiles are way better - that's Gundam. Armored Core is an almost perfect blend of both - it features mechs with substantial weight to them without sacrificing their humanoid features, and that makes it great.

I want dark souls 4! And.... Another one could it be new Tenchu?
Miyazaki already said the Dark Souls series is done, there are no plans at all for another unfortunately :(

But that doesn't mean he won't go for a Bloodborne sequel, or maybe even a Demon's Souls sequel which would be awesome.

I believe you meant to say that Steel Battalion had a ridiculously cool set up controller.

You mean to say you want me to say it does. I honestly find it interesting that such a game went that far to have special controller like that to allow the player to feel like one is actually a pilot for a robot in a game, i wish something like that existed when blaster master was popular. I always wanted to control metal gear in the game, but only MGS4 actually made it happen but it was nothing like steel battalion. :P

Of all the few games based on robots, i think some would have been fun to consider using such a set up for it. :)
Sadly i am a sucker for a controller, something i find very easy to use no matter what game it is. Watching the first trailer for Xenoblade chronicles X at E3 2 years ago, the part when you got into the skell and showed that ALMOST LIKE VR SET UP i was so excited. Oh wait, just like xeno gears and xeno saga, Magine how you use standard controller for player combat then jump into the cockpit of the Gear or Skell or whatever and you got steel batallaion controller. Your 12 year old boy fantasy is completed. :P

I really wanna try it again now that I'm older. I remember playing it when it first came out (I went to the store with my spoiled friend as he picked it up). Only managed to beat the first level. Not sure how much of it was that I never really got the full extent of the controls.

While it might not utilize mechs, you can do something similar in Star Citizen if you get yourself a nice HOTAS. Walk around with a controller but then switch to the HOTAS once you sit down in a pilot seat.

I suspect that what he'll do is some kind of blend with the same kind of combat that people like, but probably a very different setting or theme to the game.

Personally, I'd like to see a re-envisioning of the Kings Field series with more modern systems. More forcus on traps and secrets instead of enemies sitting there waiting for you. Places to explore instead of linear hallways that connect to other linear hallways, but still not being open world... that sort of dungeon crawl experience, but more quick paced and unforgiving.

@hyprskllz Miyazaki himself said Dark Souls is done and over and he doesn't want to do any more. Whether this extends into Demon Souls (unlikely, as Dark Souls is a successor to Demon) or Bloodborne (Maybe. Though similar in concept, Bloodborne does have some significant changes to Souls.)

But I am SO HYPED for a new Armored Core game!! I should look into V/erdict day and give it another shot!

Miyazaki can say whatever the hell he wants - Souls games will continue to be made for as long as they make a wicked amount of money for the company. They put From Software back on the map after a good few years of sitting on the sidelines, especially in the west that only ever got to enjoy Front Mission (and not even all of them) and a couple of less popular titles that nobody remembers. If Miyazaki won't make more of them, someone else will, that's a guarantee - you don't slay a chicken that lays golden eggs.

Maybe not in the "Dark Souls" name, but Bloodborne still has a possible future as a series. Then again, how many times can you make a "Souls" game without it starting to get repetitive and dull? It may be their chicken that gives the gold eggs, but to the eyes of the public, it could get to a point where Souls just starts being like Call of Duty or Battlefield with a yearly release with little gameplay changes and tacked on DLC. Before long, it's just making regular eggs that the farmers just paint gold just so they could sell a lot.

Bloodborne maybe as their weapons and gameplay are diversified from the Souls games, but before long it too will suffer the same fate as Dark Souls.

Edit: Plus, I doubt From wants to devolve into Activision as being the company that ONLY makes "Souls" games. From has to keep their branding open. They've become a stronger company via Souls, so now they have to keep their market open and diverse and release a few existing as well as new IPs to keep the company fresh.

That's exactly how you slay a chicken that lays golden eggs, in fact. Dark Souls makes profit through a somewhat defined but very carefully planned storyline and plot. (An audio based, two games across, lore-wise feel train?! That was insane in ds3!) So if a fan based studio grabs the project, it Will be really, really hard for them to don't screw that badly. (Heck, even from was suffering in complexity in bb and ds3)

Who says anything about a fan studio? From Software will just hire someone in Miyazaki's place, they hold the rights to the IP. Dark Souls can't make money if you're not making Dark Souls games, and there's nothing wrong with yearly installments of a good game. As far as the plot is concerned, that point always makes me laugh because there's nothing careful about the plot of Dark Souls, there just isn't much of it. It's an action RPG designed so that "the plot doesn't get in the way of playing it", it's just suspended in a world and non-descript. It could be easily replicated over and over again.

FFS From, I love you n all, but just because you suicided Tenchu on X360 doesn't mean we don't want another one :(

Also ... More AC is ALWAYS good, as long as it isn't the Multiplayer only catering bullcrap ala AC5 .... AC4A was the tits

I just want to say Miyazaki is the current President of FROM right now. I do believe that means he does say what goes. If he does want more spiritual successors to Souls-based game from smaller or even indie devs, I'm sure they'd pay to help helm the game and have FROM publish it. But as it stands, we may not see a Souls-like game from FROM for a while. Even from a gameplay point, FROM doesn't want Soulsborne to be like Call of Duty and Battlefield: Yearly releases that's generally the same as the other 20 games that came before it with a nice coat of paint, and MAYBE one or two new features. Maybe if they want to do a remake or remaster of Demon Souls or Dark Souls now and then. But as it stands, the cash cow can only give so much milk before it's dry.
