Hello everyone,

I have some questions for which I found no answer (because I don't know in which way it relates to my own device).
I have an old 3DS XL which was originally shipped with a 7.xxx firmware. The firmware was downgraded with Gateway 3DS to 4.5.0 on sysNAND. The emuNAND is currently in Version 9.2.0.
Now I want to use Luma3DS as cfw with the existing Gateway 3DS. For me, it is clear, that if i would go only with Luma3DS, I'll have to follow the normal Luma3DS guide and the troubleshoot section with the "unsupported FRIM" error, that might occure, because of the downgrade.
But I want do want to use the Gateway 3DS furthermore. So if I get it right, I could use the Gateway version of A9LH but this is restricted. That's not what I to have.
Anywhere in the internet, I've read, that it is possible to install Luma3DS regular and while pressing the down-button to boot into gateway mode. If not pressing, the down-button, it will boot to the Luma mode. Is this correct and if so, how do I achive this?
Might this be the correct approach:
1. Updating my sysNAND to 9.2.0 (necessary? how do I do this?).
2. installing Lumas3DS regular.
3. modifying the installation of Lumas to enable dualboot to a gatway.bin file.

Sorry, if these questions are stupid, but I don't want to brick my device while doing something reckless.
I will appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

I was in your situation(4.5 too) until last friday..now, I'm using luma al9h at sys 11.00 with gateway as extension. I used plailect's guide and I didn't update to 9.2 first, I begin the al9h process at 4.5. Now, whenever I hit down button while booting I boot into gateway sysnand and can use rom selection with select and default boot is luma. I no longer use emunand(not bad since it save some space in my SD) like I used to be when I was in 4.5 using gateway MSET.

Thank your for your reply.
I'm stuck in the Plailect's guide at Part 3 Section V. In Section IV he says:

  1. Update your 3DS by going to System Settings, then "Other Settings", then going all the way to the right and using "System Update"
    • Yes this is safe, stop asking about it.
    • If you copied a firmware.bin to /luma/ earlier, delete it after updating or you won't be able to boot
After removing the firmware.bin I did the steps mentioned in Section V. At the end of the step you need to reboot. There I receive the Error:
An error has occurred:
An old unsupported FIRM has been detected
Can you help me? I'm really sure, that I followed the guide strictly.

So you're using the new guide. I did'nt used this one. So I don't know much about it.

Soo I have checked the tutorial in the section IV last part it says (Update your 3DS by going to System Settings, then "Other Settings", then going all the way to the right and using "System Update"). Did you updated your 3ds?

Oh I get it you did the Section V aswell. It says reboot. If it gives error just push the power button until it shuts down. Then turn 3ds back on & open FBI as the tutorial says.

Yes. After the update, the 3DS restarts. It booted quite well. Then for the next section I switched it off, did the Section 5 stuff (and deleted the firmware.bin as mentioned above).

Your 3ds is not turning on or what?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

just restart your 3ds you have done the section V so now you need to reboot. If its not rebooting then restart the console. After check the health & safty application that is on the 1 slot. Health & safty option should now turned into the fbi installer. Open the fbi installer & do the start lookin at the section VI.

What FW did you start the guide with?
I started with the 4.5.0 (downgraded with Gateway). The 3DS was shipped with a 8.xxxx

Hmmmm I think you missed something behind.
So Part 3 Section 4 says
7. If you started Part 1 with a NAND between 4.0.0 and 4.5.0, make sure you have copied the following firmware.bin file to /luma/
[...]
10. Update your 3DS by going to System Settings, then "Other Settings", then going all the way to the right and using "System Update"
  • Yes this is safe, stop asking about it.
  • If you copied a firmware.bin to /luma/ earlier, delete it after updating or you won't be able to boot
The "FBI_inject_with_banner.app" was generated without error and the injection did not reported any error.

Sorry for the long duration before my reply, but I have to wait several minutes.

Of course I can take a picture. What screen do you want to see? :D

after updating did you removed the firmware.bin from luma folder on your sd card? if you did'nt then remove it or you won't be able to boot.

Ah, that's probably it, then. Just use the firmware.bin for now, that's your best option.
I should redownload the firmware.bin and place back to the /luma&/ folder and proceed like nothing happend? Might there be any disadvantage with the file there?

I updated the firmware. At the end of the update process I had to click "reboot now". I think this is a necessary step for the normal update, so I clicked it. The 3DS reboots to the menu and all was fine.
For the section 5 I have to start from the switched off state, so i switched the 3ds of. Then I removed the firmware.bin, because it is mentioned in section 4. After that, I did the necessary steps for section 5, because I didn't expect any error and wanted to do all the steps as close as possible (like in the tutorial).

You might have deleted some file from the luma payloads or from the sd. Check the files again.

The only file I have deleted manually was the "firmware.bin". I don't have a backup of this file (my bad :( )
Can you explain how to check if there any other files deleted?

If I insert the downloaded "firmware.bin" the 3DS boots fine. In system settings it says, that firmware is: "Sys 11.0.0-33E".
The "Health and Safety" 'app' is the first in the row, I din't opened it, because I don't want to make things worse.

Does health & safety gives FBI icon?
